It sounds like you need to replace the power supply. If you feel confident enough it can be done yourself. It can be a little bit expensive to pay someone. When you leave it off for a long while does the picture ever try to turn itself on at all??

Hi

twins,
Please note that if your TV denies to work ,

it can be a result of working power supply!

Power supply (SMPS in technical term) has 2 main functions :

1- Producing the needed voltages and supplying them to different stages.

2- Protection and monitoring for unwanted situations like short circuit ,

over/under voltage , over current , thermal problems and ...

In all of the above situations , SMPS cuts all or some of its outputs

for preventing further damages.

You can recognize this using some symptoms like click sounds ,

flashing standby LED , number of clicks and flashes

and some simple tests.

Thanks in advance for choosing Fixya for assistance please

include Model & chassis number and the year should you need to

have more possible solution for your problem.

Regards,

palaboy

Most often it is caused by the

Flyback transformer or a bad component along with it.

you may need to open the back of the TV and check on it.

For visuals check for a possible bulge capacitor on the power supply or a possible bad CRT socket.

Remove the CRT socket from the CRT pins, and might try powering it up ( don't let these board

touch anything metallic or have an electrical contact with other components )

if it does power up, you just found the cause.

    But if it doesn't

might as well check the Horizontal Output transistor ( mounted on a
    heatsink )

Could be bad.( Recheck everything on the first link above.....

Make it sure that the unit is unplugged even for at least 10 minutes.

and these is what a CRT socket looks like:

Of course it is still connected on the CRT Socket Circuit Board.

    Check on Horizontal output Transistor,

Remove it if it is shorted to fully confirmed.

Once it is removed , you can then measure the B+ voltage on the deflection Board.

You will then know, that your power supply is OK.

One reason it is not powering ON is a partially shorted

    Flyback

    transformer.

You have a bad retrace capacitor. RCAs are known for this. They are extremely high voltage at minimal MFs. Take this TV to tech please!

Mike-It looks like the power supply is going on your tv-it can be replaced. This happens, usually, when little kids are playing wth the remote or power button on the tv. Turn it off and on a whole bunch of times in a row, kids love to do that, and it burns out the power supply part- to make a CRT tv like your RCA36 incher- which is a beautiful machine- I have the RCA/PROSCAN 36 incher-LAST longer...You should always wait 5 min between turning it off and on. Don't ever sell it. This one is worth fixing. It has better color and sound Than the new plasmas and lcds-The Pros know this. Be carefull, they might try and talk you out of it-so they can fix it and have it for themselves. So what if it's not High Deff. It's a great set.

LG 47" LCD TV - 47LC7DF Clicking Noise

I was told that these clicking noises (which happen on my Magnavox LCD too) were due to the "power required" at the internal switch. Seems that the power required to immediately turn on the TV is too much for a standalone household outlet, so it "surges" power in a series to get enough there. Hence, the clicking sounds are actually mini power surges to send more power to the internal circuits to turn the TV on.

If your set is like mine, these noises generally stop after a minute or two, correct?

Tv does not turn on.

There is probably a short or a near short loading the power supply circuit, a leaky capacitor, shorting diode, transistor,IC,LOPT etc. Have the set checked by a technician near you.

It is still worth repairing!

TV WON'T COME ON

All the reports are showing the same problem the TV is in shutdown mode.

Something is wrong and it is refusing to start it makes a chirping or clicking sound. Solution is that it needs to be repaired nothing you can do unless you want to try replacing the motherboard yourself.

TV will not turn on when power button is pushed.

check the main fuse in the tv. test it with a multimeter, not visually. if its the thermistor that blew the fuse, it is very difficult to see the break in the wire. replace if blown. if unit blown fuse again withing a couple of weeks replace the thermistor in the degausing circuit. good luck.
