What is the largest capacity SD card that I can use with a Pentax IST ds camera?

The camera uses SD memory cards. SD cards max out at 2GB. SDHC cards run from 4GB up, but they cannot be used in SD devices. SD cards can be used in SDHC devices.

The short answer is 2GB.

What type of SD card does the digital camcorder recommend? Will a 2GB DC card work?

You need a faster SD card for camcorders usually - checkout Sandisk Ultra II series. or Sandisk Extreme III

I have a Pentax Optio A20. I currently user an Sandisc Ultra II 1.0 GB card. I can't find those cards anymore. I'm not sure if the camera will support a SanDisk 4GB UltraII SDHC Card or a SanDisk 2GB...

It will take a 2 GB card, I am using one now.
I can't tell you about a 4GB card, but that's a LOT of storage, so you probably don't really need a 4GB card anyhow???

What Memory Cards will work?

Hi,,

Unfortunately, the Pentax K100D is not SDHC compatible, which means that the camera can be equipped with a maximum memory capacity of 2GB.

It is also advisable to choose a fast version of the Secure Digital memory card, such as Ultra II or Extreme III by SanDisk. I would recommend using a memory card of at least 512MB, or even 1GB if you can.

Hope this info helps

I want to obtain a larger memory card (currently have a 1GB) but everyone we buy I have been unalbe to get them to format/ I have a pentax ist DS

You should be able to use 2GB SD cards. Cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC cards and will not work with this camera.

Internal Memory??

The E-500 has no internal storage. As per dpreview it will accept CF and xD-Picture cards. xD-Picture is slower, more expensive, less compatible, and all around less useful. As far as CF goes, the Sandisk Ultra-II is a good reliable card for a reasonable price. I wouldn't bother with a faster card like Sandisk's Extreme-III or Extreme-IV; they might speed up copying to your PC somewhat, but the camera itself won't write out files any faster.

Why is my *ist DS eating my SD cards?!

I've used Sandisk Ultra II 512M cards, a PQI 1G and a Transcend 1G card (all high speed rated) in the *istDS. I've done about 1500 exposures now, many RAW, and have done several rounds of upload to my computer. No problems at all. These same cards work flawlessly in a Panasonic FZ10 as well. Either you have had a bit of bad luck, two defective SD cards in a row, or have a *istDS with a stuck or bad memory card controller. Try using the Reset command in the Set Up Menu, see if that helps. BTW, always format SD cards with the camera once before you start using them.

SD card for *ist DL

Interesting... I've heard that (for the DS at least) the camera isn't capable of using more than about 60X, but of course your downloads can be faster if you use a reader. At 2gb, this might give you some benefit, but a full transfer of 1gb on a garden variety sandisk only takes a few minutes.
