Question about John Deere 420,1020,2010,2020,2510,2520 Tractor Float
My John Deere L120 riding mower will start but shuts down after 5-10 seconds.
I had this problem and it was a simple fix. I found that I wasn't getting fuel because when it shut down there wasn't any fuel in the fuel filter. I checked the pump and it was good and then found the little vent hole in the fuel cap was plugged. Once I got the chunk of accumulated dirt out everything worked fine again.

Two things to consider....fire and fuel. Lets start with the simplest....check and replace the fuel filter, drop bowl off the bottom of carb to make sure float is working properly. If this dosen't work...your looking at a new coil. Some coils will go quickly where others are gradual. As they heat up...they will stop working until allowed to cool down again. www.nnyparts.com
