Sounds like the brush that the belt runs (or is supposed to run) is being kept from turning. If you can get the brush out to clean it and lubricate the ends that go into the holder clips, this should solve the problem.
With the new belts burning and smoking it appears that the motor is running okay, but as I said, the brush that is supposed to be turning is frozen solid from debris or dirt. Need to free the brush and lubricate the brush holders with some WD40.
Bought the whole motor assembly for mine, no bearing only part available. THis vacuum now headed for its third motor. " $45 dollars is still cheaper than a new vacuum". That's what I said the first time...
That is the problem with the bagless cleaners. The dirt goes through the cup, directly to the filter. There is nothing to keep them seperate. You can try putting a single layer of paper towel against the filter. It will provide a breathable barrier for the dirt but, it will clog too.
If you are looking straight onto the vacuum it goes on the right side around a small metal bar and then around the brush. Make sure that when you push the brush up that both caps are twisted in the correct position so it will slide easily into the grooves.
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=574515 Generic problem for all Vacuums Replace power cord on Bissell Posted by bah4995 on May 06, 2008 Replace power cord on Bissell vacuum model 3596 Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Usually the Bissell needs a genuine cord because there is a special grommet or cord protector that goes into the bottom of the Bissell of the machine or sometimes you can use a replacement cord and then also use a replacement cord protector as well to replace the cord. If you have a problem then contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or contact the Bissell factory cust service to get an owner’s manual for the Bissell. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.bissell.com/Customer Service1-800-237-7691 Hours of Operation Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 10:00 pm EST Saturday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm ESTMail To: Headquarters, Bissell Homecare Inc P.O. For the handle problem, detent lever part #2030052 and costs $4 to $5. A bearing in the motor is what is making it sound bad, part #2032211 and will cost around $60. You could try bissell.com or call them. They can at least let you know who has Bissell parts near you.
