It can either be that your bios have been configured improperly some how. Or that your hard drive has went out. You would be able to know if it is the hard drive by knowing if there has been any clicking at all. If you have then the hard drive has went out and will no longer work. If this isn't the case then for the bios all you would have to do is just reset the bios to default. If this doesn't work then you can flash them with the latest from here:http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3375954&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3375952 just click on the operating system that you will be installing and then click on bios. Then follow the instructions once you have the file downloaded. If that doesn't work and it turns out you were wrong about the hard drive then you will have to replace it. And you have two options for getting a replacement. Order it directly from hp http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/default.aspx?mscssid=826D01A14EBE4CF4B6978D305A1C0FAD or find it elsewhere for much cheaper. The cheapest you can get is a 40GB drive and it is only $13.49 on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116178 it is that cheap because it has been recertified. The largest you can get is a 1TB drive which would be virtually endless space for people that don't have a bunch of stuff as well as a slow internet connection it is only $169.99 and in my opinion I would say that is a really cheap hard drive for its size http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136545 for installing a new drive refer to hp:http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01179993/c01179993.pdf just click on replacing a hard drive to the left in the list and it will give you step by step instructions.

HP 510 laptop respond to boot but was unable to display of

hello

take an ordinary CRT monitor screen (desktop type) and plug the 9 pin VGA into the notebook, of course plug the power cord of the CRT screen into AC outlet). Allow the system to boot up into normal sequence mode. You should get an output view on the CRT and If that's the case, then we can safely assume your notebook screen is not functioning and therefore the laptop screen has to be replaced. If the CRT output is not showing anything , then we can say that the LCD (from laptop) inverter may have to be replaced.

disconnect the CRT monitor
also, try this : place the CD recovery into CDROM bay and reboot the notebook system. While it reboots it willa sk you if you wish to boot from CD, press enter and let th sequence get to the install OS . Say yes and select the REPAIR System and allow this to take its course . Perhaps you have a corrupted OS . You may have to repeat this until the system can boot normally.

kind regards

First thing that comes to mind is have you downloaded all of the updated driveras from the manufacturers web site? Most apps won't work unless you do.
Have you downloaded all the Windows updates?

Let us know what the OS is and then we will be in a better possition to advise.

I Have an old HP pavillion model N3410. I am trying to access BIOS or change boot order but it won't let me. I've tried pressing f2 during reboot but it goes straight to normal windows me startup.Also...

Turn the computer off.
Hold down any key on the keyboard, and turn the computer on.
You might get a "keyboard error, press <something> to enter BIOS SETUP".

Also, instead of F2, try F1 or F10 or F11 or F12 or DEL.

Ibm t30 -black screen comes up with missing operating system

Sir, It seems there is no Operating System(OS) installed in your laptop.
Check is you have got any Operating System (eg : Windows XP, Vista, 7) CD/DVD provided to you. Or else, try to get it from any computer retailer shop or buy it from microsoft.com. If you have any such CD/DVD, Insert it in the CD/DVD ROM (drive). And press f10 key during the boot screen (the black screen) and choose " First Boot Device " as Cd/DVD ROM and it will appear as " Press any key to boot from cd", press any key and you will get through the Operating System Installation Screen. Follow the procedures, at one point you should format the partition (drive) where you choose to install that particular OS. And follow the procedures, enter all information it asks like product key (it will found on the OS CD/DVD package) and other registration information. Once you done wit all these, your laptop will work fine. Thank You.

Computer wont reboot

The issue is due to presents of earlier operating system files which are avoiding you to reinstall the os.
At this point I recommend you to clean the hard disk and then try for fresh installation. However, I am providing you the steps below:
Perform the steps provided in the below web site and then perform the Reinstall process

http://killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

NOTE: The URL above will take you to a non HP Web site. HP does
not control and is not responsible for information outside
of the HP Web site.

After performing the complete format of Hard Drive, Reinstall the Windows XP.

To reinstall the operating system, follow the steps below:

1. Ensure that the CD-ROM is connected to the notebook.
2. Turn on the notebook.
3. Immediately insert the operating system CD into the CD drive.
4. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the notebook.
5. Press the Power button again to start the notebook.
6. Press Esc key to boot from the CD when HP logo appears. Choose the first boot device as CD ROM and then click enter. The Welcome to Setup screen is displayed.
7. Press ENTER to continue. A Licensing Agreement screen is displayed.
8. Press F8 to accept the agreement and continue. The Setup window is displayed.
9. Press ESC to continue installing a fresh copy of the operating system without repairing.
10. Press ENTER to setup the operating system.
11. Press C to continue using this partition.
12. Select "Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)", and then press ENTER. A caution message stating that formatting this drive will delete all current files, is displayed.
13. Press F to format the drive. The reinstallation process begins and may take several minutes to complete. Your Notebook will restart into Windows after the process is complete.

NOTE: When prompted for the product key, refer to the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity located on the bottom of your
notebook.

I hope this information helps you. Please reply if I can help you further.

HP 520 Notebook. Shuts down before installing new OS.

I agree a clean install is always the better, fresh start J
OK it sounds like missing drivers, what you have to do is create a new installation CD that will load the drivers for your laptop as it boots. I haven’t try this method with windows 7, but I know it works well with Windows XP. Try and create a new Windows XP CD with the drivers see: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/35/
The start a new installation with this Windows XP CD and reformat you computer, after that you can do a new upgrade to windows 7

How do i erase a hard drive with a os on it i need to install a hard drive on a pc but the os on messess up booting when i plug it it

press DEL key as soon as the PC is booting. it will enter BIOS, find "Boot priority" and change the "First Boot Device" to CDROM. then save and exit.

If you are installing Windows, watch out for the message "Press any key to boot from CD....." then follow on-screen instructions.

If you are installing Linux, it will boot to CD drive when it found the Linux boot CD.
