Question about Xerox Phaser 8550DX Laser Printer

1 Answer

Xerox Phaser 8560 started printing with an inch black line.

We have a Xerox Phaser 8560 and it has just started printing with a dark (composite black) but varying shades on the left hand edge of the paper about 1" thick - we have tried cleaning the drum, the maintenance wiper and using the various cleaning menus and sometimes it helps for one sheet and then it is far worse - had the printer for about 2 years with no problems so far - should we buy another?

Hi i think buying a new one might be a bit drastic, this could be a couple of things, mainly is the toner supply try to the heated drum putting out enough ? is it blocked at one end? ( ie the end that has the faint print ) is the heated drum defective? this would be a major repair, but i think it will still e cheaper than getting an equivalent printer of this type, although there are now allot of very reasonable printers on the market, but it defiantly sound more like the supply of toner to the drum it might be worth the investigation, all you might need to do if purchase some white spirit to clean the toner supply tray out...hope this helps

Thanks for your reply - the problem is the thick line is all the way down the page (sorry the right hand side not the left) and seems to improve with a little cleaning of the drum and maintenance wiper and then gets very dark in colour - where can I check whether there is a blockage to or on the drum?

Further to my previous email I have left the 8560 printer off overnight and this morning it is now printing nothing on the right hand margin of the paper - does this indicate that the left hand side of the drum has lost its charge or whatever it needs to attract the wax?

    Many thanks.

Xerox phaser 8560 says "paper jam - open front

try cleaning the microswitches. it may also have a sensor and if the little plastic piece that crosses between them has broken off it will throw codes. mine is ok so i cant say for sure but you can try to glue a suitable piece in there to trick the printer if thats the case or bypass the sensor. just a few suggestions from my experience with electronics

sensor is kind of this: gap is where the plastic part is supposed to go in between.

How do I print on 4X6 photo paper on the Xerox Phaser 8560

To print 4 x 6 on a Phaser 8560 you can only use the MPT and you can't duplex. When you load the paper into the bypass, the screen will pop up options for paper size and type. The closest match to 6 x 4 is A6 but the tray will know that the size is wrong if you select it. Therefore, you must select 'Custom Size' and input the size in whatever units the printer requests, either inches or millimeters depending on your printer settings.
Hope this helps.

Printing from wrong tray

I suffered from the same problem for a long time. We got Xerox Phaser 8550 and 8560 here. I choose on computer "tray 2" but the printer just print from tray 1 which is empty.

Today i figured it out! It's some configuration at the printer. So go to "Paper tray setp" -> "Tray 1 mode" and "Tray 2 mode" -> change to "static".

I figure it's like this. Before it was "dynamic", it probably means the printer decides it's better to use tray 1 even though you choose tray 2 - and this decision is stupid. Changing it to "static" fixes this.

Let me know whether this works for you too!

Phaser 8560 error code

Most likely you are using generic ink or ink not made for that specific machine. The black ink is the one causing the problem. the printer will then need to be reset.

2 sided copying

You just select 2-sided printing in the print dialog box. I think it's on the finishing tab. I'm assuming you aren't trying to print on 2nd side of pre-printed stock. That would be a different issue.

Xerox Phaser 8560 Waste INk

Although I agree totally, the anwer is no. Althought it appears black, take a piece of it an use it like a crayon. It is a combination of all the color inks combined. So if you take and rub it on a piece of paper it will be a purple color. So threfore would not create proper colors.
Now to save ink, Do not turn the printer off at all. Just let it use its own sleep mode. The power consumption is intermittent to keep the print head warm and uses about the same ammount of electricity as your refridgerator light bulb. The reason being, when you turn off a solid ink printer, it purges the print head of ALL old ink and dumps it into the waste tray. That is part of those weird noises you hear when you cycle up the machine, one is a compressor emptying the print head.
Also, honestly, althogh I am not sure what you are using the machine for. But you would be wise to put that product on a pay per page maintenance agreement. That includes all ink and all service. Some of the parts for those printers are super expensive.
I will say one thing you can do with that waste ink, if you know anyone who has children, they can use them as purple crayons..
