Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators
The water filter should be at the bottom of the refrigerator. You don't even have to open the doors.
You will either have a push button filter or a twist filter. I will walk you through the twist filter first.
At the bottom of the front of the frig, you will see a turn handle. This is the filter. What you need to do is turn the handle a quarter turn (90 degrees) counter clockwise. This will release the filter. Simply pull it out. the handle will slide off the front (this is what you were using to turn the filter). You must keep this and put it on the new filter in the same fashion.
The push button filter is in the same spot, only instead of turning it you push the button and it should pop out. Pull it out and save the cap! The cap goes on the new filter you install.
If you have located the filter but are having actual difficulties removing it because it is stuck, the only advice i have is be careful not to hurt your fingers! Applying slow pressure in a pulling fashion will generally relieve it. If I can be of further assistance let me know!
These filter generally cost between $35 and $40 at your local retailer.

I had the same problem and it appear the cable set between the freezer door and refrigerator body has some wires broken. The cable is in the bottom right hinge. You can try moving the cable with fingers at the same time you're pushing the water lever.
While this is not going to be a permanent fix, at least it confirm where the problem is.

sounds like the switch tabs are broken off of the switch bracket behind the dispenser front cover. you should hear a distinct click when you oush in on either lever for ice or water if not then that bracket is broken. if you'll look on the very bottom of disp cover you will see 2 slots insert a small flat blade screw driver and pry the cover off then you'll see a white bracket with switches and wiring on it look at the black switches and most likely the little plastic posts that hold them on are broken. the bracket is inexpensive and very easy to repalace. if you have any urhter questions just ask thanks peyton...

SOURCE: Water Filter
most whirlpools have the filter located in the bottom kickplate, right below the freezer door. turn counter-clockwise and toward you to remove. if it has never been removed before, they are hard to get out the first time.
