Assuming there are no other symptoms:

If this appears after extended operation - an hour or more - it may
just be a build up of dust, dirt, and grime over the years. After
understanding the safety info, some careful vacuuming inside may help.
Just don't be tempted to turn any screws or adjustments!

Dust is attracted to the high voltage section in particular - even the
front faceplate of the CRT collects a lot and should be wiped with a damp
cloth from time to time.

If the symptoms develop quickly - in a few minutes or less, then there
could still be a dust problem - a power resistor may be heating a wad of
it but other possibilities need to be considered.

If not dust, then probably in the power supply but realize that TVs don't
have a nice metal case labeled 'power supply'. It is just a bunch of stuff
scattered around the main board. Without identifying the part that is
heating, a diagnosis is tough especially if the set really does
work fine otherwise. However, if a series regulator were faulty and putting
out too much voltage, the set could appear to work properly but in fact
have excessive power dissipation in certain components. If cleaning the dust
does not solve the problem, you will probably need a schematic to identify
the correct voltages.
You have to take the television to the manufacturer,

Was watching 11 year old rear-projection TV & suddenly there was a pop, & the TV turned off. I tried to turn it back on, but no response but a clicking, and then i smelled a hot, ozone-y smell.

No , you should not be concern about the fire because you unplugged the T.V .Firstly you have to see that your product is in Warrantee .and if its in the warrantee then you have to call the customer services and ecplain them the situation then they will send a guy to see what the actual problem is and most probably if its in warrantee then they are gonna replace it ...

My samsung tv smells bad

The most likely reason your tv smells bad is that the capacitors located on the main power board are likely leaking. This symptom will eventually cause your tv to act weird such as not powering up at all to powering up but not turn off or anything in between. The tv will not catch fire but you should have it repaired soon.
Good Luck,

The tv keeps turning off after smelling smoke, the color went bad just before the first time

If you smell smoke from the TV turn it OFF and UNPLUG it before you have a real fire. Something is drawing too much current, or it has a short. It is doubtful that someone with out knowledge of electronics could or even should try to diagnose and repair an electronic item that smokes.

My LG LCD flat screen tv shut off one night and smelt like burnt rubber. It turned back on fine but I'm worried it will catch fire

You are safe. :) It may have shut off from a voltage spike or brown-out on the line. There are several fuses inside of the TV that are supposed to blow before anything catches fire. If it starts smelling again, then unplug it and take it to a service center.

I have a sony bravia LCD TV. I heard a clicking sound and then there was a burnt smell. Is the TV worth fixing?

If you call Sony's customer care and create a case file/ticket number with them they are supposed to have a service provider look at your television at no cost to you. You have to specifically state there was a burning smell or an electrical burning smell. The evaluation from the service provider should be free. The repairs may not be free but you would not have to go through with them if they aren't free and if you don't feel that they are worth the cost. The company is supposed to offer to evaluate your television because by law if your television caught fire and there was personal or property damage you could sue them. They want to avoid this at all costs.

Burnt electronic smell even hours after tv turned off

Its behavior is not normal. Have it repaired. Fumes are hazardous to your health especially to the little one's health. Think of a fire hazard too. As the adage says :No fumes without fire.

Hope you decide to be rid of the bomb or have it repaired.

My 32v434t television.

The TV was making the clicking noise and not turning on because an internal error was being detected.
Now things had got worse , and something had blown inside the TV.
The burning smell and high pitched noise is coming either from Flyback transformer or PSU board. Repair is a delicate matter and must be done by a technician.
