Video screen on thin client

I have installed fedora 6 on my asus 810e motherboard and i am using a lcd monitor and i want that my screen resolution should be 1440x900 of my screen or monitor .

    sorry tampanative this is not a solution this drivers works only on windows i need fedora core 6 or linux

Third monitor not showing


right click on desktop click screen resolution and press Detect button. Also try updating your video driver. also try swapping out the cables with each other and try using a hdmi cable for the TV connection.

How do you fix a white screen for a dell Inspiron 1100 lap top?


White LCD screen in a Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook PC?

1) Loose connection of the video cable TO the LCD screen, and/or loose connection of the video cable TO the motherboard.

2) Bad LCD screen

3) Bad motherboard. (More specifically a bad graphics chipset)

To start the diagnoses to find out what the problem is, you will require an external monitor.

This monitor can be a CRT monitor (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA cable.
(A CRT monitor is a VGA monitor also)

Example of a VGA cable, and a VGA port, (Connector on computer),

The VGA port is on the back of an Inspiron 1100 Notebook PC.
It is Blue in color.

A) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF. Connect the VGA cable of the external monitor, to the laptop's VGA connector (Port)

B) Turn the external monitor on. If a CRT style allow it warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By default, (Factory setting), the external monitor should show the graphics of the laptop.

IF Not;
There are 3 options available,

1) Internal monitor of the laptop - ONLY
2) Internal monitor of the laptop, AND external monitor
3) External monitor - ONLY

If there is NO display on the external monitor, (Display; To include a white screen);

A) Press the Fn key, and hold it down. Now tap the F8 key. (F8,CRT/LCD)

Still no display on the external monitor? Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and tap the F8 key again.

IF, the external monitor shows a white screen, Stop.
You have a bad graphics chipset. Option is to replace the motherboard.

IF, the external monitor shows graphics just fine, diagnose further.

A) Look to see if the Video cable is plugged in tightly to the motherboard, AND connected tightly to the LCD screen.

Click on - Display
Under the heading - Display Assembly, look at the partial 'photo' under the number 8.

On the left side where it shows two Philips head screws removed, is the Video Cable. Pinkish wire wrapped around a Light Blue wire.
Look at Number 9.
The display-feed flex cable is the Video Cable.

Make sure it is plugged in tightly to the motherboard.

Now go down to Number 10.
In the exploded drawing the number 7 points to the Video Cable.
(display-feed flex cable)

Shows the Video Cable disconnected from the motherboard, and going up to the back of the LCD screen.

Scroll down to the heading - Display Panel. This shows the connection of the Video Cable to the LCD screen.

Also;
The Video Cable runs through the left Hinge Cover.
Repeated opening, and closing of the laptop, may have damaged the Video Cable.

Observe the sheath of the Video Cable. (Outside wrap)
Does it appear damaged? Pinched? Torn?
Even if it does not, I suggest performing a continuity test with a multimeter.

Multimeter's function knob is set to Ohm's. (Omega symbol)
Positive probe lead (Red) is touched to one end of a wire going through the Video Cable.
Negative probe lead (Black) is touched to the other end of the wire.

Do not be concerned at this time with the Ohmage. Concern is to see if ANY reading comes up, not how much.

Perform a continuity check on all wires in the Video Cable.
(An economical, yet decent enough multimeter for this test, can be purchased for around $5 to $12. A multitude of store carry them. An auto parts store is but one example)

Video cable checks out?
The next suspect is the LCD screen.
However, read on.

Primer:
An LCD screen does not produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

An Inverter (Screen Inverter) is used to convert the power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Inverter.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the Inverter.

Example of a screen inverter for a Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook PC,

An expensive (Read - Sensitive) multimeter can be used to check a screen inverter. Not something everyone has laying around, or access to. In this case I would suggest replacing the Inverter.

(The screen Inverter is also easily accessed, AND much cheaper in comparison, than the LCD screen. Again, 90 percent of the time the fault is the Inverter )

IF, the Inverter does not cure the problem, then the problem is the LCD screen.

Review;
Check the display with an external monitor. Display checks good, run a continuity check on the Video Cable.
Video Cable checks out OK, go to the Inverter.
Inverter does not cure the problem, the problem is the LCD screen.

BEFORE beginning to disassemble;
Remove ALL power to the laptop. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

Observe Anti-Static Precautions.
(I would also advise using an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.

Average cost of a decent ESD wrist strap, is around $3 to $6.
I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.
{Electro Static Discharge)

Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
If no multi-compartment container is available, substitute with a clean egg carton.
Label each egg holder.

SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws.
Do Not mix them up.

After installing the ASUS EAH5450 my computer turns on and runs fine on my desktop monitor. However, I've hooked up a HDMI cable to my Sharp Aquos and the tv says it's receiving an incompatible...


The easiest thing to try is change the screen resolution before connecting via HDMI. The process is a little different depending on what operating system you're using.
For Windows Vista/Windows 7: 1. Right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution" 2. Slide the bar to change the resolution to either 1024x768 or 1280x1024. 3. Click apply.
For Windows XP: 1. Right click on your desktop and select "Properties" 2. Click on the tab to the far right that says "Settings" 3. Under Screen Resolution, slide the bar to change the resolution to either 1024x768 or 1280x1024. 4. Click apply.
Either of these resolutions should at least give you picture when you reconnect with HDMI. Once you get a picture, repeat these steps and gradually move the slider higher to get a better resolution picture. If you receive the incompatible signal message again, just wait 15 seconds and the previous setting will be restored.
If this doesn't work, you may also have to adjust the screen refresh rate. From the same window that has the screen resolution adjustment bar, click the link or button that says "Advanced." The second tab, "Monitor," has a drop-down menu to adjust the screen refresh rate. Depending on your HDTV, the most common setting for this could be 60 Hz, 70 Hz, or 120 Hz. If none of those values work for you, you should check the manual that came with your TV to check what the proper resolution and refresh rate should be for your computer connection.

Windows 7 has some neat little enhancements, one of them being how it lets you handle dual monitors. If you're adding a second monitor to your Windows 7 home or office PC, which is a very good idea, it's a breeze to configure.
There are actually two ways you can currently setup multiple monitors in Windows 7, either by using a keyboard shortcut or via the traditional system properties.
I really like the first method since it's new and is way easier than having to go into the Control Panel or anything else.
Simply press the Windows key and P (Windows + P) to bring up a quick menu of options.

Pretty neat! You can pick to show only the computer, make the second monitor a duplicate of the first, extend the desktop to the second monitor or turn off the first monitor and activate the second.
The second way is to right-click on the desktop and choose Screen resolution.

Now you'll see the familiar 1 and 2 to distinguish which monitor is which. There are several options and under Multiple Displays, you can choose from the same options as when you pressed Win + P.

That's it! You can also change the orientation of the displays and change the resolution of each display. It's pretty straight-forward in Windows 7 and a lot easier! Enjoy!

Ingram Micro TFT-LCD monitor fault.. When my computer boots up the resolution is correct 1152 by 864 pixels but after a few seconds the resolution reverts back to 640x480 and I have to go in to screen...

Unable to get 1440 x 900 resolution with onboard graphics.


Yes, through bios you can only select VGA but it wont have any effect on what you see on windows, so let bios aside. Is through Windows Display properties that you select all the different resolutions... (RIGHT CLIC YOUR MOUSE OVER THE DESKTOP, SELECT PROPERTIES AND LOOK FOR THE SETTINGS TAB ON TOP, MOVE THE SLIDER AT THE MIDDLE TO SELECT RESOLUTIONS) in windows is where you should have the latest drivers from ECS (now PCCHIPS) for your motherboard's onboard graphics. 1440x900 is widescreen type resolution, only available rather recently by new monitors that support it and so I guess it wasn't included in your original motherboard driver CD. Then it's a must to have the new drivers installed and the monitor's plug and play recognized by windows in order to attain the desired resolution from the card.

Any new AGP video card will be far better than the onboard type. DVI is just a digital type of conector and doesn't have to do with the resolution selection, but it will make the images in the monitor show a little better since there is no signal degradation in digital transfer through the monitor cable.

Change power output from motherboard


Windows will automatically install your desktop monitor using generic drivers. But if it doesn't, go to safemode by pressing F8 before it goes to windows. Change your settings from there. Also, normally, CRT monitors can take more than LCD monitors.

How to properly install Asus N6200 AGP video card


Set refresh to 60hz
Set color to highest position.
If this is an LCD, set it to the highest resolution
If this is a 15" or 17" CRT, set resolution to 1024x768.
If this is a 19" CRT, set resolution to 1280x1024.

Also, do not use the drivers on the CD. Go too nvidia.com and download the latest there.

Also, if you can get into the BIOS, try to disable the on board graphics if you see an option for it.
