Hi,

This hard drive is powered via USB not any external power source. My question is how do you know it is damaged by a power surge(?) Current through the USB is regulated and power is cut off if a short is detected. I would like to know what problems are you experiencing and whether an error code is generated when you connect it to a PC?

Sorry but this is a clarification request not an actual solution. The solution will depend on the answers provided to the above questions. Waiting for your reply. Thanks.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Ac adaptor will not work

Go to any computer-store, and buy a new "empty" external drive enclosure.
Then, "transplant" the disk-drive from your W.D. enclosure into the new enclosure.
All your files will remain accessible, and the new power-supply will power your disk-drive.

Elements by WD, AC Adapter Failed

There are replacement models for this 5V/1.5A power supply that the AD6008 uses.

One of them is made by a company called "Asian Power Devices" [APD] and their model number for the replacement for this particular unit is: DA-30C01.

I've seen them for sale on www.amazon.com for around $25.00.

WD Elements 1tb External HDD media files skipping

Try running Scan Disk and defrag. Otherwise use a program like SpinRite to do a low level scan of the disk.

Good luck

Help! the green light flashes then nothing happens

The exact same thing just happened to me (WD elements 500 gig) and it's only about 10 months old. I called the customer help line (on the official website) and after they asked me what the serial number of my HD was they were going to send me a new power supply. Simple as that. They said they'd be able to send it out early next week. I'm hoping that the HD didn't get fried and it's just the power supply but what you've described is EXACTLY what is happening to mine.

Why won't My external Hard drive work on a Macintosh

You probably formatted it with an NTFS filesystem. The Mac won't read NTFS drives. You will need to reformat the drive (after backing up the data that's on it) with a FAT32 filesystem. AFAIK FAT32 is the only filesystem that can be read by both Mac and Windows.
