I have a 1996 RCA colottrak plus tv, model #f32672sb. For the past 6 months, several minutes after being turned on, the power will turn off. prior to this event, the picture and sound are fine. If you push the power button on and off several times, the power will come back on, only to once again go off after several minutes. Worth fixing?

Brief power outages may cause the TV to turn off on its own. If you are using a surge protector, try connecting the set directly to the wall outlet. If this does not correct the problem, then I would consider maybe getting that new tv. But I can provide further options for you to look into. Let me know what you want to do.

I would bet that your voltage regulator needs to be replaced if anything otherwise

The voltage regulator is in the power section
(near the power entry of the set) which is mounted against a fairly big heatsink. Check it first and then check all the transistors in the area
    starting with the big ones.

if you are able to fix yourself, it would definitely be worth fixing, or if you have a friend that is good with electronics, just buy get him some drinks and I'm sure it will be an easy fix.

Please keep me updated and be careful when working on it, make sure you unplug it and be careful about what you touch, mainly the capacitors

HI,

The only solution to fix this problem is to get it repaired by a technician.

Few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1)Do a hard reset by unpluging all the cords for 4hrs and then plug it back.
2)The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution as fixya..

Do a flea power unplug the power cable leave it turned off for an hour this will drain the static power and try pushing the power button for 30 seconds without connecting the power then try connecting the power the issue should be resolved.

Have a GE universal remote model number 24922-CL3 1349 what codes do I need to use so it will work with my RCA ColorTrak Plus 1996 model tv with model number F27638BC

If your GE remote is universal, you should be able to search all of its codes for one that will work with your RCA TV. If you search is unsuccessful, you may have to try another universal remote. Not all remotes contain all codes.

How do i get to the input/video screen on the RCA F32672sb 32

If you have an old vcr hook the dvd player to the inputs on back of the vcr (RCA jacks) Run a coax cable from the "out" on the vcr to the back of tv. Turn the tv on channel 4 or 3 then put a tape in the vcr and push record then pause it. Or if the vcr has a tv/video button you can push or activate it and it should allow the dvd to play through to the tv.

It's probably a cracked solder joint in the power supply / horizonal drive stages. As the unit heats up the joint is seperating and breaking connection. It could also be a component failing when it gets hot. Usually the voltage regulator or Horizonal Output Transistor (both mount to heat sinks).

If you know how to solder and want to tinker, unplug the set for a couple days (to let the power capacitors discharge) and resolder and crystalized it cracked joints on the board(s) where the power stages, and flyback transformer are located.

If you decide to operate the set with the back off, please be careful. The high voltage on a TV can be 30,000+ volts.

Hope that helps,

Geno

The first thing is to check to see if the fuse is blown,if so replace with a 5 amp fuse, fuse is located near were the power cord connects to the board, make sure set is disconnected from power.

Try unplugging your set, If you didnt save the changes this should reset it back to default settings. If that desnt work, you will need to go bak into the service manual and adjust the horizontal size. Just write down anything you change so you can revert back if you have too.

RCA Colortrak Plus Model # F27672ET

Your set might have a leaky capacitor that takes a while to fully charge to the supply voltage as well as loose conections to the vertical Ic,sometimes you can identify it because it overheated and the insulation is peeling, sometimes they look normal but they are bad.If you are familiar with tv service you will have a place to check but if you are not too familiar seek the assistance of a servicer.
