I can access the menu but don't know how to turn the closed caption on. When I select my choices it says press enter, return and menu and that does nothing.

  • emprunier Apr 09, 2008

new batteries were put in. Did press select, enter all the things I was told to do. Have read pages 37 and 38 of manual and they don't help me.

  • emprunier Apr 09, 2008

The shows that support closed caption say CC but no closed caption appears. As I daid I can go through my cable remote to set captions on and it says they are on but they do not show up on the TV. On page 37 of the manual it indicates a CC button on the remote. Mine does not have that button but I can access the CC menu through the TV menu.

  • emprunier Apr 09, 2008

Yes it does. I always watched on my other TV set.

Hi there

Basically,

you can try to access the MENU of your tv with or without your remote, but as to make things easier, try o access the MENU and look for the close captioning options there using your remote. you may see it as turned OFF and try to switch it to ON.

however, you may not be able to see all shows and dvds with caption...

since your problem indicates that you need closed captions on your tv and you cant seem to operate it, please download Jaime867 post about the user manual.

Closed captions and Digital closed captions are found in Page 37 in the user manual...

again, hope you'll be able to see the closed caption soon.

thanks for using fixya.

turning on the closed caption isn't that hard. you just have to select it and press enter or in some other cases, select the closed caption and either push up or down on the remote.

have you tried changing the batteries of the remote?

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2008

really... ok. seems like the remote has not helped you at all... this will go down to the show you want to have captions.. does the show or dvd support captions? usually some shows have captions automatically...

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2008

so it seems like the captions really is missing... has anyone else touched the remote either than you?

    I meant turning it off..sorry..

You can probably turn it on the the TV's menu using the remote.

What kind of TV signal are you using, satellite, cable, over the air, digital?

Can you provide the exact model of your TV? Thanks.

How is your cable box connected to the TV? I can't seem to get CC from my Satelite box to my TV when plugged in using an S-Video cable. Some set-top boxes and cable combinations just don't seem to work depending on the set-up.

Its in the TV Setup. The Cable box will output the Closed Captioning on Line 20 or 21 of the Picture - this is just at the top of the TV Picture where you can't see it. The TV Menu should have a choice of closed Captioning like CC1, Teletext, etc. and one of them should be selected. After exiting the menu, you should start seeing Closed Captioning
on the tv.

Can't turn closed caption off on our Samsung Series 7000 LED TV

Make sure it isn't your cable or satellite TV service making the captions, as closed captions on your TV are separate from the ones produced by your service provider. If it isn't your cable/ satellite, open the TV menu and find the Audio/Visual properties section of the menu (audio and visual might be separate sections), and find the closed captions or CC options menu. When you do just change the setting from whatever it is on, to off. If your TV remote is fancier than mine (which it probably is), their could possibly be a closed caption button on the remote for easy access. In this case just push the button and change what you need to.

Close captioning on HDMI

The TV will not display closed caption with HDMI input. It must either over-the-air (antenna) or composite input for the TV to manage CC.

To get CC with HDMI from your Comcast DVR, you need to configure the cable box. Instructions can be found here:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Setup

If you want CC all of the time, this works well. But since you must power-off the cable box to change the setting, switching CC on and off is a real pain.

Your set-up is similar to mine (Sharp Aquos 46" and Comcast DVR). I have the composite output from the cable box going to a DVD-recorder and on to the TV. Whenever I need CC (usually to catch some mumbled dialog), I just rewind the DVR, and switch the TV input to the composite input. Then I switch back to HDMI to continue watching in HD.

How can I active the subtitle and caption for tv programs

My Sharp TV manual says there should be a "CC" button near the upper right corner of your remote control. Keep pressing the button to go through the different options.
Not every TV program has closed caption, so it may not every time.

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

I have a Sharp Aquos 46" and go a Comcast HD receiver as well, and had the same problem turning off the Closed Captioning. I order to turn it off you need to go into the box user setting by (starting w/ the cable box and tv on) pressing the power button for the cable box then the menu button for the cable box. This will open up the user settings menu. Just toggle CLOSED CAPTION to DISABLED.
