    have you tried safemode ?
as the pc starts tap F8 and you should get a menu - use the arrow keys to select safemode and press enter
if it starts in safe mode - try a system restore

    start>
    programs>
    accessories>
    System tools>
    system restore >
choose a date before the problem started

Why won't my compaq presario 1250 load windows?

1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode).
Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.

2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Starting problem

Immediately after seeing the Dell logo, keep tapping the 'F8' key,
until you see a "menu" (white text over a black background)
giving "startup" options for Windows XP.

Select "Safe Mode" and see if you can start in that mode.
Then, use "System Restore" to go "back" in time, to the most-recent checkpoint (date/time) where your computer _DID_ work.

Restore to that point, and restart.

Can you tell me when the network driver in Windows gets loaded. I read some where that it does not get loaded until you get to screen in XP Pro. Is this true?

The network drivers do not load until you boot to Windows. I'm not sure what you mean by the XP Pro Screen but you have to be at the desktop level to have them load.

A good way to test when they've loaded is to go to your network connections after you're fully booted and right click on your connection. Choose properties. Check the box that says: Show icon in notification area when connected.

Two little computers should then appear in the right side of the system tray by the clock.

When you reboot, those will not appear again until the drivers have loaded.

Wont load passed windows xp screen

Try holding down the "F-8" key when the emachines logo appears, see if you get a prompt for "safe mode". If you can get the system up and running in safe mode, shut it back down from the start menu. That should rewrite the boot sector and may clear the problem.

Win XP Home no longer works, won't boot from cd/or hd

You have a virus most likely. You will need to boot with an antivirus cd & let it scan & repair the virus damage. After this is done you should have control of your system again. Hope this helps.

On boot up screen reads "Loading PBR 2...done"

As the notebook is starting you see the Dell 'Splash' screen. Press F2 to go into the BIOS setup. Check to make sure two things: first that your cd/dvd and hard drive are being recognized and identified, second that your boot order has the cd/dvd first and internal hard drive second. Your machine may be trying to do a USB device boot or network boot when these options are not available. Next try pressing F8 immediately after the splash screen disappears to try to get into Safe Mode. If it still fails to boot, I would try booting using a Windows XP installation disk and then going into the repair console to check if the hard drive is damaged or corrupted.

Stuck on windows loading screen.

This means there is a damaged boot sector on your hard drive. If you have a WIn XP installation disc you will need it to repair the system, but you need to set the bios to boot first from CD Rom. When system boots press enter to start from disc, then when prompted press 'R' for repair. The easiest way, would be to remove hard drive, and set it as slave, then connect to a friends computer as the slave drive. Go to My computer and right click on your drive, down to properties and then click on tools tab, then click 'Check Now' on Errror checking to check the hardrive for damaged sectors.
