I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Came installed with 4 GBs of RAM--2 in each of 2 slots. I went out and bought a Crucial 4 GB stick. It matches the criteria of the other memory. I pulled out one of the 2gb sticks and put in the 4 gb stick. Computer still recognizing only 4 GB. Is it because it is Crucial brand vs Toshiba purported "Kingston" brand? Or do I have to match up on size? 4gb + 4gb?

If I am not mistaking this laptop has a maximum RAM capacity of 8GB in two single RAM slots.

RAM specs: DDR2 800MHz, PC2-6400

Your laptop must be pre-installed with a 64-bit OS in order to recognize and take advantage of the entire memory.

Hope that helps. Rate me please!

The brand has nothing to do with the computer being able to recognize the total amount of memory. I understand from your reply that you already have 64-bit enabled operating system environment. You should have no problem installing the memory and get it recognized. Make sure you install the 4GB stick into the DIMM/BANK A and the other memory into the B slot.

Then turn on the laptop going to the BIOS menu if you are able to access it. Look for the section that shows how much RAM you have and at what speed they are operating.

If you see anything other than 6GB, then there might have to be some changes made to the BIOS.

If you do actually see the 6GB there. Then just start the computer normally. Right click on "My computer" and then try to update your system score. It has to change the number because you have made a significant upgrade to the total amount of available RAM.

Here is a free program that can detect the right amount of RAM while logged on. its called CPUz. very helpful tool and you would never not use it again.

    Hope that helps.

I have a toshiba satellite p505d vista home premium sp2

This a 7 port usb2.0 USB hub. You can connect 7 usb devices at a time but that will reduce/freeze the system performance if used together.
Download speed can't be increased by this device anyway.

Toshiba satellite p505d s8935 overheats when playing 3d games after about an hour or so. Not every time but often enough to be frustrating. I then have to let it cool off for about 15 minutes and then...

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Need to know what motherboard is in a toshiba satellite p505d s8007

It's designed by Toshiba but manufactured by HannStar the part number for the motherboard is DA0TZ2MB8X0 (where "X" is the revision code) you will need to disassemble your laptop to see which revision you need, it can be A,B,C...), so far i have seen up to revision "D"

The bios chip is located close to the center in the top section of the motherboard and there is a "U1" mark close to the chip, the chip manufacturer is Windbond part number is 25X80VSIG.

How do I change the hinges on my Toshiba P505D?

Remove the four rubber bungs at each corner of the screen cover then remove the four screws.
Luckilly Toshiba have thought about this problem!
If you offer the ninges up to the side of the screen, you will see how it is fixed.
Remove the covers fron the underside and the hard drive unplugs WITH CARE!
Unscrew the suround screws from the base and remove the top cover.
You can leave the keyboard in place.
You will see where the hinges fit to the base.
Replacement is the reverse.
Hope that helps.
