Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop turns on and the monitor only turns on for a second.

Last night I dropped a tv on my laptop. It was knocked over and the laptop was on the floor. The laptop was closed and a small crack at the very bottom of the back of the screen was made. The inside there is no damage. But if I turn my laptop on it does turn on but the screen shows for about a second then turns off again. The computer is still running. What do I do?

you need to open the laptop and check the screen, it is possible that the flex or screen inverter that connects the screen to the laptop motherboard has shifted or has loosed contact or is not firm to its right position.

All you need to do is to open the laptop, if the flex is removed, fix it back to its right position and that's all.

Also, do a general troubleshooting on the screen and the problem should be solved.

Good luck.

I dropped my phone last night and the screen black

Sounds like you either damaged the back light or display or hopefully just knocked the connector loose. Either way the case would need to be opened so you need to get it to a repair shop.

I have a Princeon Monitor attached to a dell computer- been using it for about 2 years with no problem. I usually leave both computer and monitor open at night. Last night, there was an electrical storm...

Mmmm not a good thing. Ive had this happen to me before. Knocked out my COMPUTER, MONITOR, AND TV! Well it could have shorted your monitor, you can get it fixed, but mind as well pay for a new one. As long as the one you have now is not really that expensive, but you could probably get it fixed for around 80$.. I wouldnt recommend it to be a "Do it yourself job" I would call some tv repair shops.

Broken laptop screen

Just plug the desktop monitor into the laptops video out port and then turn the laptop on.
Wait about 30 seconds after turning it on, then press the FN + F8 keys together. This could be different on yours though. Just look for the function key up on the top row that has the 2 monitor icons on it and press the FN + that key.
Make dure the monitor is turned on before you start the laptop.

Monitor going black

HP's are known for bad capacitors in the power supply.
Replacing them is simple if you know how..not so simple if you don't.
Try your local TV repair centre. It should not cost alot to have the capacitors replaced.

Hope it helps =)
