If you are getting the corrupted hard drive message and the Playstation 3's repair does not repair the drive then you may need to format the drive with a computer. The link below will help you do this. Note if you still have trouble with the drive then you may need to replace the drive as it is having hardware problems.
Note in regards to the blue screw you need a PH1 tip phillips screw driver. If you have tried to force it out with the wrong size screw driver then you may have stripped out the screw. If this is the case you will have to use a screw extractor to get the screw out.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions.

My ps3 slim has an error report saying that the hard disk has been corrupted. it tells me to restart and the hard disk will reformat. I have restarted 5 times now and it keeps giving me the same error. How...

Just as a guess, it sounds like the hard drive might be dead. If you have another 2.5" SATA hard drive, you could try it in your PS3. To swap out the hard drive, look at the bottom of the console, and right next to the warranty label, you'll see a little door that you can pull open with your fingernail. Open it, and you'll see a little blue screw. Just unscrew that, and put the screw somewhere for safe keeping. With the screw removed, you can now pull the hard drive out from the bottom right of the front of the console, unscrew it from its chassis, and place the new one in and put everything back together. Once you turn on your PS3, you should get the error again, but let it restart, and everything should be fine.

How to remove the hard drive on a Playstation 3 Slim

Removing the hard drive on the PS3 Slim is simular to removing the hard drive on an original PS3, however the drive is in a different location.

Note if you are upgrading PS3 hard drive you will need to back up your data first so that you are able to put your files back onto the new hard drive.

1. Make sure you have all your cables unplugged from the PS3.

2. Turn the PS3 upside and locate the hard drive access door (it will be at the front of the system next to the small info sticker).

3. Ether with your finger nail or a small screw driver lift up the cover.

4. Next carefully unscrew the blue screw. Note you will want to make sure you get the right size phillips head to make sure you do not strip out the screw head. On the few systems I have seen a PH1 head you be the right size you need.

5. After you have the screw removed you will want to slide the hard drive cover to the right to expose the hard drive.

6. Next pull down on the lever and pull strait back in the drive caddy to remove it from the PS3.

If you have remove the drive to upgrade the drive you will want to unscrew the drive from the caddy and install your new drive.

If you have removed to corrupted data on the hard drive the link below will walk you through formatting the hard drive on your computer just skip to step 4 as the first steps are for removing the hard drive from the original PS3.

Sounds like a bad hard disk. You might try to format the disk. If that does not help, you will have to purchase a new one.

How can i fix my playstation3 becuase whenever i i turn it on it says " The hard disk's file is corrupted and will be restored. " It loads and everything but then it comes up the sam thing again, please...

Hi the only thing you can try yourself is take the hard drive out to do this switch the ps3 off and unplug it then open the little flap thats on the side of the ps3 and once the flap is off you should see a blue philips (cross head screw) screw you need to undo this then the hard drive will either pull strait out or you may need slide it backwards or forwards depending on which ps you have one you have got it out leave it out and plug the ps3 back in and switch it on wait for it to come on then switch it off again and unplug it.

put the hard drive back in and give it a try and see if it will work.

if after doing the above it still dont work then the chances are you have a corrupt update all you then need to do is go to the official playstation 3 web site and get a usb memory stick and if you look on the site for the updates you will be able to download the latest update onto a memory stick then once you have done this put it into your ps3 and switch it on it should then correct the corrupt data thats on their and get it working again.

if it dont then this would mean you need to get a new hard drive

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Hard drive corrupt

you can try reformatting your hard drive...on your xmb go to settings>system settings>format utility

just know if u do this you'll lose all and everything on your hard drive.

if that doesn't work you can replace your hard drive. if you look on the left side of your ps3 you see a tab that reads "remove this tab to replace your hard drive"

if your looking at it there is a small groove on the right side where you can use a small screw driver to lift it open.

once thats done you'll be looking at the hard drive. notice the small screw holding it in place. *CAREFUL YOU DO NOT WANT TO STRIP THE HEAD OF THE SCREW* use the right size screwdriver and note that the screw is on very tight. so using the correct screw driver push in with little force as you begin to loosen the screw.

once the screw is off you should be able to lift the metal tab and be able to slide the hard drive to the right. once thats done just pull it out of your ps3 using the same tab

now put in the new hard drive into your ps3 as far as it'll go and slide it to the left to connect the hard drive to the ps3. you won't see it but you'll feel it sliding into place.

once thats snuggly in place screw on the screw being careful not to strip the head and making sure its on tight. and finally replace the plastic tab to cover the hard drive.

once all of that is done you'll have to reformat the new hard drive for your ps3 to recognize it.

Help brand new ps3 hard drive corrupted. Im not taking the hardrive out, HELL NO!

I would return for replacement if it is new. Or send to sony would be under warranty if under 1 year. If not warrantied try to format the hard drive.Replace hard drie if it is older style PS3 and not the new slim PS3. I think the hard drive is built in and cannot be removed. If is a slim, your best bet is the warranty. Good Luck.

"hard drive disk is corrupted, it will be restored" but it doesnt

I'm not 100% on this but this generally means that the hard drive is bad. You can try reseating it (open the door on the left side, take out the blue screw slide the HDD back and then reseat it) and it may fix it. Else looks like you may have to buy a new one. You can probably check the sony website for upgrades or look online to buy a new one. I don't think it'll be too costly.

Ps3 wont start up

1) Have you tried reseating the hard drive?
2) Stand the ps3 on it's wide base, with the touch sensitive buttons facing you
3) Open the plastic cover on the left face of the machine (the narrow base when the machine is standing vertically)
4) You should see the HDD cradle and a blue screw which holds the HDD in place.
5) Remove the blue screw
6) lift up the metal u shaped tag, so it points towards you
7) Slide the HDD sideways by gripping the tag
8) Reverse the procedure to reseat the HDD.

If you are lucky this might work!
If not you could try replacing the HDD with a new one.
