Question about Black & Decker Black and Decker Mm575 18" Mulching Lawn Hog Electric Lawn Mower

Electric mower keeps slowing down and stopping

I've had a B&D MM575 electric mower for about 4 years now and it's worked fine until this year. Two weeks ago it the motor kept stopping while I was trying to mow. I thought it might be overheating, so I left it a while and eventually managed to finish.
This week the problem has gotten so bad that I've given up half way through mowing my lawn. When I pull the lever, some times it doesn't start. If I tilt the mower (forwards, backwards, left or right - there doesn't seem to be one way that works better) it'll start, but as I start mowing it'll slow and eventually stop after a few minutes. More jiggling usually gets it going again, but it's too frustrating and it isn't cutting well (because the blade keeps slowing down).
I took the black plastic top off and cleaned out all the grass clippings that had managed to get around the motor. I plug it back in and tried to run it without the top on. At first it didn't start. I tilted it slightly and it started. I notice sparks coming from the brush on the right (when standing behind it, I think it's the +ve side), but not the left (might be I can't see them from behind). When I release the lever it slams to a halt and I get a big spark from the right side brush (but not the left). I started it up again (after tilting again) and it ran without moving for a couple of minutes before slowing and stopping again.
Does anybody have any ideas what the problem might be? I don't really want to drop a couple of hundred dollars on a new one if this one is fixable.

Two things come to mind. The brushes in the motor should be replaced. (Get them at a local motor repair shop, but take one of them in with you to get the correct one). If that is not the problem it may be the switch in the handle that you turn it on and off with. The switch may be corroded or bent. Good luck...Lee

SOURCE: lawnboy 10301 won't start

you need spark, gas and timing to make it run. have you checked spark? sounds like you are getting gas. did you hit anything hard with the blade while mowing? this can throw it out of time.

SOURCE: Problem mowing my lawn.

I had the same problem and I already found those recommended solutions\ causes on the web:
1. The motor isn't on full throttle.
2. The blade is upside down.
3. The grass is too high when cutting it.
4. Overlap your cuts.

It helped my problem/ I hope it will help yours too!

Take off the black plastic hood (4 screws), clean debris and check connections to, and condition of, shunted brushes. They're available from B&D parts for a few bucks.
