Can not build working pressure pressure......

The compressor is not building adequate pressure, usually maintains (120psi). It presently will only sustain about 40 psi. Any suggestions?

It's the pressure regulator spring. Take the knob off inside the knob is a spring with a black plastic piece. Most likely this is broken and not pushing in on the pressure spring to open the tank to the outlets.

The most likely problem is a burned out "run capacitor" on the motor. If you continue to try to run your compressor in this condition it will burn out the "starting capacitor" and/or motor as well.
It's also possible that you have a bad start up pressure relief valve, this valve will be between the compressor and the tank. If this valve is working properly you should hear a hiss of air as the compressor motor shuts off.
A reasonable motor repair shop should be able to replace the run capacitor for $20-$50 plus inflation, depending on your area.
If you need to test the start up pressure relief valve, you need to take it loose at the compressor or tank. Just loosening the line may not work depending on the style used. Note: sometimes just taking this loose to test it causes you to have to replace the valve.

Hello I have a 20 gallon kobalt model 033204. I just replase pressure switch but does same thing. When I tur on the compressor jus build 50 psi and shuts off.

This usually occurs when the motors internal thermal / amp breaker opens due to overload or weak breaker. Use an amp gauge to test for too much amp draw. If amp draw is normal, then problem could be the in-tank check valve leaking pressure back to the pump overloading the system, or weak capacitor or weak breaker. Bypass the breaker temporarily if the amp draw is normal to test system. Good luck

Air compressor slow to build pressure, and noisy.

All large air compressors are very noisy.

How long it takes to come up to pressure depends on the size of the compressor piston(s), how fast they are running and the size of the air tank attached to it. (and if the tank or hoses have leaks)
A 20 gallon tank could easily take 10 minutes to get all the way up to 120 psi. 120 is very high, and probably the limit for the compressor. Depending on what you're using it for, try dropping the setting to say 80-90psi.

DeVilbiss air compressor will not build pressure

Does it have an intake air filter? Has the compressor been properly maintained? Oil less? It may have worn out rings and or valves

Air compressor will not restart after it builds pressure and pressure drops to 80 psi

Make sure the power cord is plugged into an adequate extension cord if one must be used. Never less than 12 gauge wire.

The start/run capacitor may need to be replaced.. If there are any ball check type valves, make sure they are not worn or sticking. they would be on the output of the compressor head itself.

My air compressor won't get past 60psi but keeps running and isn't leaking air anywhere when I shut it off

Your problem lies with the valve plate and/or piston & cylinder. If one or more reed valves on the valve plate are cracked, bent or broken; pressure will only build to a certain point. If either the ring on the piston is damaged or the cylinder is badly scored it will not be able to compress air beyond a certain point. Unless the tank pressure reaches 120psi to 130psi the pressure switch will never turn the motor off.

yes buddy it will do your adjusting the stop pressure so say you set it too 150psi once it reaches this pressure it will stop then as the pressure drops to about 120psi the compressore will restart and build to 150 again and you can adjust the starting pressure

EC-12 runs but only builds to 35 psi and continues to run

It looks like there might be a knob which sets the max air pressure coming from the compressor. If there is one, this may have been turned down.

There are usually 3 pressure settings on an electric compressor. Compressor max, pressure switch cut on, and pressure switch cut off.
