Question about BenQ FP71G 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

BenQ FP71G+ screen blank

El... Great post in one of the forums describing how to check whether the monitor problem is with the inverter board (or the bulbs) or with the panel itself (the idea of shining light onto the panel).

Any suggestions on how to find out where the problem is on the inverter board?

Monitor will sometimes just lose picture while green light remains on.
Can be sometimes be solved by unlugging the power cable for 20 or so seconds and plugging it back in.

i had the same problem. future shop wasn't going to fix it till i told them that it was their responsiblility. now our second one did the same thing. and we are taking it back tonight. thank goodness i kept my receipt. it didn't cost a thing to get it repaired. and it was the inverter board.

I have the same problem, but when I extend my display to this monitor (as a second) and Apply, for a brief moment the screen is displayed, although dim, and then it goes blank. I tried unplugging it and reconnecting the power with the same problem. Is this also characteristic of this problem?

You have failing LCD panel or the 5vdc feeding the panel may be bad. Check to connection at the LCD panel T-CON board.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Monitor stopped working, blank screen powerswitch on green light. Was having intermitant problems going blank once in a while

First place to check will be the power supply section, look for bad caps (bulging top/bottom), post back what you see so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps, lamps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

No image on the screen when I turn it on. It is a BenQ71G

If the screen is black (ie there isn't any backlight) then the fault maybe the inverter board that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp ot the CCFL lamp is faulty.

Benq screen shuts down when pc is plugged in

If it's a 71g and not 71g+ resolder transistors 2sc5707 on invertor board along with grey condensers and inverter transformer. This should solve the problem if it was display shutting off with power led remaining on.Otherwise check power section.

Monitor goes blank

Sounds like the back light inverter board is bad. It's a very common problem. LCD's use four small cold compact fluorescent bulbs to back light the display. (thats what gives the LCD it's brightness allowing you to see it) The inverter board runs these lights and when they go bad they will typically show symptoms like you have or the monitor power light comes on and you have either no display or a very dim display. If you ever have one that has no display but the power light is on you can check by shining a flashlight directly into the LCD from the front (right into the screen) if you can see an image then it's either the inverter board (most likely) or the CCFL bulbs have gone bad. The inverter board and CCFL's are replaceable. Good Luck, El Duderino
