The chain brake should have been released before removing the cover. You may need a large screw driver to release the brake. Good luck!

Chain saw brake on husquvarna model 41

To replace the brake band do as follows, remove the bar nuts and take the brake away from the saw, engae the brake to remove as much tention off the internall spring by pushing the hand guard fully forward, remove the allen screw securing the hand guard, do not remove the e clip and pin from the hand guard, tap out the pivot collers and remove the hand guard, remove the cross head screws securing the spring cover, carefully remove the spring from under neath, tap out the silver pivot pin from the knee link activating arm, use a puch from the other side of the brake to remove the roll pin securing the other end of the band, with the band out remove the screw securing the band to the knee link, install the knee link to a new brake band, re fit the roll pin in the band and re fit into the cover, insert the spring, this will have to be compressed to get it back in, re fit the spring cover, you need now to load the brake, fit the hand guard onto the cover, insert a conical puch through the hand guard and cover to enable you to pivot the hand guard back and load the brake, now fit the hand guard properly onto the cover and re fit the collors and screws.

How do I get the right side brake cover off of a Farmall M?

You will need to remove the band that wraps around the brake drum. If you cannot get the cover to come off, you will have to remove the band activation arm to slide the cover off. This will require a lot of penetrating oil. Most likely the band shaft has rusted tight into the transmission frame. You may need to remove the operator platform to access from the inside.

How do you pull the chain break apart on a poulan chainsaw 2150 and repair it.

The brake is a saftey item on the saw and should only be repaired by a quailified fitter, however if you should decide to do it yourslf that is down to you, the brake is a so called knee link brake, start by removing the brake from the saw, once removed activate the brake by pushing the hand guard forward untill you hear the brake come on, now remove the allen screw in the hand guard pivot ( do not remove the c clip in the side of the hand guard ), tap the pivot collers out from either side and remove the hand guard, remove the cross head screws securing the spring cover, BE AWARE THERE IS A COMPRESSION SPRING UNDER HERE, eye protection should be worn, with the cover off, pry out the spring, remover the small pin securing the knee link mechanism, using a small punch tap out the roll pin from the other side of the cover that secures the anchor end of the band, it should now come away, remove the cross head screw holding the band to the knee link mechanism. You can now replace the band, refit the the knee link to the new band, re fit to the machine, tap the roll pin back into the cover to secure the anchor end of the band, re fit the knee link pin, re fit the spring ( be carefull ) re fit the spring cover, place the hand guard back on the cover, use a suitable tapperd punch to insert through the hand guard and cover to hold it in place, now pull the hand guard fully back to load the brake, remove the punch and re fit the pivot collers and allen screw. Make sure the brake now functions properley.

How do you replace the cover that has the spring-band chain break? I can't seem to get it over the clutch. There must be a trick.

You need to load the brake, it has obviously activated and the band is now smaller than the drum, if the hand guard is connected to the brake, clamp the side cover in a vive, be carefull not to damage the cover, now pull the hand guard fully back, it will take some force as it is compressing a large spring, it will click when the brake loads, if the hand gaurd is on the machine not the brake, remove the hand guard from the machine and use this as a tool to fit into the brake, with the cover in a vice pull the hand guard fully back until it clicks. the cover should now fit back onto the saw.

I have just changed the chain on my Husqvarna 440e but left the brake on. Now I have run the chainsaw the brake sems to be stuck on. Can anyone help (stupid mistake , should have read the instrcution...

Do not run the saw any more, remove the fixing nut and take the side cover off, you may well have done some damage now,if the brake was activated prior to you re fitting it, the band would have been smaller than the drum, this will now have forced the band into the drum seizing the two together, check the condition of the brake band, and sprocket, any sign of damage and it will have to be replaced.
You need to load the brake before re fitting, clamp the cover in a vice , be carefull not to damage the cover, either remove the hand guard from the machine and use this as a tool too fit into the brake quadrant and re load, or find a suitable u spanner that will engage into the quadrant to load the brake, you will need a fair amount of pressure to compress the internal spring, and load the brake.
Good luck

Took off cover to put chain on and can't get the cover back on the brake band doesn't sit right

You need to release the brake mechanism in the cover so that the brake band will expand enough to pass over the clutch drum. You should have released the chain brake before removing the cover, but that doesn't help now. Use a wide heavy screwdriver to release the mechanism. Hope this helps!
