Question about Philips Magnavox DVD/VCR Dual Player

1 Answer

Noise Noise Noise from the player itself

When i try to play my DVDs of NYPD BLUE:SEASON TWO it sounds like there is a train running through my house. The noise is coming from the DVD player....I don't have the problem with NYPD BLUE: SEASON ONE....may i assume it's the disks and not the player. Or what? I also have a problem with NYPD BLUE: SEASON THREE..there are places where the disk skips and "stutters"....these two series play fine on my computer..i just wonder if my DVD Player is at fault in any way..

Season 2 and 3 disks are dual layer disks - your dvd player has trouble reading them, the laser sensor isn't sensitive enough. The only thing than you can try to improve the readability of the disk is to clean the lens from the player, dust on the lens acts as a filter reducing the efficiency of the sensor. If this doesn't fix it you will have to replace the player with a new one.

Some DVDs will play and some won't.

I learned that the first few season of West Wing were recorded in a different format. I bought another DVD player ($30) and they work fine.

Brand new dvd will not play on this model dvd, but will play on other dvd players in the house

This is a commen problem with this model and really can not be fixed! Some DVDs have a different codeing and others dont. your player will have problems trying to play newer dvds that have this codeing (and from the DVD itself there is no way of telling till you try it at home!) look for players that play many kinds of disks!
