    Panasonic viera plasma TV TH-50PX80U

TV power light began blinking and then heard a pop sound and a burn smell.
Preveious expert, check capacitors and if bulged/swollen and then replace them.
The yellow tape like attachments (the capacitor?) I cannot find capacitor on site I was led to Parts.com Do you agree with diagnosis and where and how much for parts

    Thanks

    Terry

the capacitors are not damaged. The high voltage board was arcing. After looking over board and inside board, It seems a cat has pissed on the TV. The high voltage board is cleaned up. When turning on the TV it did not arc. The power light is blinking and not turning on. Now I guess it may be a transister on the power board. I don't have much money, which is why I am trying to repair myself.. My friend who is good with electrical things and needs a schematic of the board. If I were to buy a recycled board. What is the board callled. I tried parts.com and does not find a board searching power board. just things like printed board

Most likely a capacitor failed (or more - usually they fail in bunches), easy to fix (just some soldering to do) and a cheap part (less than $2 a piece) - find them and replace them. If you're lucky this is the only thing that has failed, otherwise you will have to test (and replace if necessary) the transistors from the power source.

Unweld all of the capacitors that look damaged, note their capacity in uFarads and the nominal voltage then go to any hobby shop that sells electronic parts and buy them (if necessary go with the old ones and ask for identical replacements), then weld them back in. As i said capacitors are cheap - less than $2 for one. If you can't find a shop near you go to a site like
    http://www.talonix.com/shop/category.asp...
If you're lucky that should be enough.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa.The popping sound you hear is usually from a bad cap on any of the boards inside. However, to check what has gone bad you’ll have to open the back of the unit
you’ll need to check bulged/swollen capacitors on power supply board. As the unit won’t even stay on for a long time so it means that it is the power board which is causing this issue. These issues usually happens due to overheating in plasma TVs after sometime, as these sets are very hard working device and produces a lot of heat. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

As I said earlier that you'll have to check the capacitors on the power supply board and replace them with a new one, also if you get a refurbished power supply board thats in good condition you can buy that to avoid any further issues.

OK, you are right it is the PCB. Moreover, you can call them at 1-866-925-7278 before buying the board. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
