Question about Kenmore 44042 Front Load Washer
Thanks for writing to Fixya.com.
Most Kenmore front load washers will not spin if they do not drain properly. Here are some tips to help resolve a draining problem…..
Check the washer for excessive suds. The washer will normally not drain properly with excessive suds present. If you see suds, let the suds dissipate and then run a drain/spin cycle to finish the cycle. Use less detergent. Make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the proper quantity. You may need to drastically cut back the amount of detergent that you are using. If you have a water softener, you may need only a tablespoon of detergent. If you have been using too much detergent, then you may have detergent dissolved in the fibers of the clothes. This would create the need to cut back even further on detergent for a while until the detergent is rinsed out of the clothes properly.
Check the washer drain to make sure that it is clear. Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. Makes sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe behind the washer. Also, do not tape up the stand pipe opening around the drain hose so that it is air tight. These issues can cause siphoning of drain water back into the washer.
Some Kenmore front load washers have a drain pump clean-out filter that you can access by unplugging the washer and removing the bottom front service panel. One type of Kenmore front load washer is shown in the images below. If you have this type of washer, you can access and clean out the large item filter.
If there is still water inside the washer, it will pour out of this filter when you remove the cover. On this type of washer, you can manually unlock the door by reaching up through the bottom and pulling the manual release tab on the door lock assembly to unlock the door. Use a wet/dry shop vacuum or other means to evacuate as much of the water as possible from the washer tub. Arrange towels to catch residual water when you remove the large item filter from the pump. This may resolve your drain problem in the washer.
Once you resolve the drain issue in your washer, it may start spinning properly.

The door will remained locked while draining water. If during installation the washer was plugged in and turned on without water hoses attached, the washer may attempt to drain for 8 minutes before the door unlocks. Let the washer run until the door unlocks. Do not turn off the washer or unplug the washer.
Does water remain in the washer after the final spin?
If water remains in the washer after the final spin, then the door will not unlock. Select Drain/Spin or Spin Only to remove any remaining water from the washer. The door should unlock at the end of the cycle. For models that have Rinse/Drain & Spin, push the Extra Rinse button to turn off the rinse to remove excess water.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light on?
If the Add A Garment light is on, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed once. Pressing the Start button will restart the washer at the same point where it left off in the cycle.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light off?
If the Add A Garment light is off, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed twice. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high-water level in the washer, high-water temperature, tumbling or spinning. It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock. You will hear the door click when it unlocks.
Trying to gain access into a locked door can be a bit frustrating. Upon researching your question I found some links that may help you unlock your washer door. I attached all links below. I hope this helps!
