Question about Jl Audio 12W3 Car Subwoofer
I have two of these except the 15in. models in my boat. Recently I've had a problem where the subwoofer's cone are moving back and forth very far except they are alternating, so the pressure is always equalized, causing no sound and just a loud rattling that shakes the boat because they are moving so much. Could this be a low voltage problem? The sound system does take up a lot of energy and sometimes it drains the batteries faster than the alternator can charge them. Or is it shorted out? is there a problem with my rockford fosgate head unit?
It sounds like you may have the speaker in the box wired out of phase. It is important that subs be wired in phase. Try switching one of the wire sets from one sub (put the + on - and vice versa.) Only do this for one of the speakers. If the connections are inside the box, you will have to get in there to do the change.
