Hello,
I just got a gob of "Efficient Networks" 5871 routers for free....
I'm getting conflicting info. off the web...can these only be used for IDSL...and not standard DSL?
Another thing....it seems I'll only be able to use this (just a simple home router application) by using it in PPPoe mode.... there's other options such as RFC -1490..I don't know what this RFC stuffs about.. Is this correct?
I tried setting it up and selecting all the "automatically get" settings and still no internet/DSL connectivity. Thanks for your time.

You may be able to use these with "standard" DSL, which generally does require PPPoe (a username and password, basically). But you'd certainly need to have an ISP providing DSL service, the correct wiring drop to the device, and your DSL provider would need to support this particular device on their network.
These are not routers, per se, they are really just DSL modems.
