The error is not with the camera but more in the system of the USB drive. Errors could come from a number of things such as, dust being clogged around the USB drive and liquior would damage is permenately. You could have your computer sprayed with the can of air for computers found in a local supply store or you could have all you drives checked also. Last but not least me sure the USB cord in is a great condition

Why won't the driver for my fujifilm finepix AX300 install on windows vista?

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa.

Canon did not update their drivers for many of their cameras under the Vista OS. In order to download photos, you'll need to do the following. Sorry, but it's the only way:

Canon 30D - How to automatically capture the pictures on my HP Vista laptop

Should just be a common USB mini cable, most cameras have this interface and Vista will automatically see the camera wiht its generic drivers. I use Picasa to download all my photos from 6 different cameras to my desktop and my laptop.
