Question about Washing Machines

Hoover 500M0AUS stops very frequently due to off-balance

I've just replaced the soloniod in my Hoover 500M0AUS top loader and it has started to spin dry again. But occaisionaly there are cracking sounds of plastic nib rubbing across the gears/cog and the bigger issue is tangling to cloths around aitator during spin rinse and spin dry modes. The issue, I think is that the agitator and the inner drum must rotate in one direction at the same rpm during these phases, but they don't. E.G when spin dry phase starts, the agitator tries to lead in spinninng and the drum follows. But by that time sgitator tangles clothes and the machine cuts or stops off-balance. Could it be the brake lever needing attention???
Thanks in advance for helping :)

    Thanks chrizzoclark,
I found the gearbox containing lubricant oil so placing a bucket underneathe it, I opened the 5 or 6 little bolts to open the end plate (or lid so to say) of the gearbox. Saw three gears within a geared housing surrounding the main shaft for agitator. took everything out and now I see the gearbox housing that rotates either way with the belt from the motor and has finger thick 5-8 holes at the inner end with something like a star shaped metal piece visible therein. Got stuck here unable to dis-essemble any further to get the the clutch spring.

Here I put everything back togather except the lubricant oil that is now sitting in a small bucket and I amtelluing my wife its OK to run the machine a few times without the oil till I find the way to return it.

    Cheers FIXYAOZ

Hi there.I'm guessing you changed the (Spin Brake Solenoid) underneath,it attaches to the brake arm,the solenoid retracts with a normal loud clunk & pulls the brake arm away..I think what is happening is the clutch spring inside that white plastic cog is not binding like it's supposed to & it's not taking the drum with it.so the agitator is spinning independantly without the drum.the clutch spring tightens in one direction for spin & loosens in the other direction for wash.either way i think your problem is in that plastic cog & clutch spring, the spring is inside that cog & hard to see.it can be repaired if your up to pulling the entire gearbox out to get to it.I hope this was helpful,it's kind of hard to explain by this method.cheers Chris

Hoover 550MA top loader tub starts to vibrate when spin starts and bang into the sides also touches the top.Noticed a rip in the top plastic cover of the tub. The load is balanced and not overloaded.

The top rubber gasket stops water splashing over the top, it also gives some deadening effect in spin. You need that replaced and also check the balance springs and shock absorbers. They do break, come dis-attached or fail.

Hoover 750 top loader goes through cycle drains but will not spin if you manually put it in spin it will not stop fills up and rinses drains but will not go again into spin until manually do it then again...

Two issues are possible , After the first start of the wash , check if the machine starts only when the water level is reached- to confirm the working of the water level sensor.
Secondly if the program cycles seems out of hand then it is possible there are errors in the program controller unit.

Washing machine off balance in one cycle

Make sure washer is on a level surface and all four feet adjusted properly. A slight forward lean may help with this problem as the out of balance switch is at the rear.

NOISY DURING SPIN CYCLE

If this sound starts slow and gets faster till its helicopter sounding you probly have a verry worn spot on the drive belt when that spot goes around the pully it will thump the faster ti spins the more frequent the sound If you tilt the washer back you should be able to see the belt to examine it if this the problem
replace the belt
Hope this helps

Hoover 600MB Top Loader, Won't Spin

I have the same problem. Just started missing the spin cycles and now I need to find which part to replace.
So far I think it could be: Aged contacts in the Timer, a faulty spin/no spin switch, or something to do with the brake/release mechanisms etc. ..I do know that the problem is electrical because everytime the motor starts the spin works fine; therefore eliminating in my opinion, the mechanical gearbox bits as a cause.

Spin Dryer doesn't work on Hoover 500M

Most probably the solonoid (also called brake motor). This is a 5 rpm motor that activates the drum to spin. I just replaced it two days back in my machine (Model 500M0AUS - you'll have to be specific when ordering or better take the old one to the spare part shop) which had a similar problem. The new soloniod I bought had a shorter cable length so I had to improvised when fitting. If soloniod is the problem then make wure the steel brake lever tooth fits perfectly in axle groove when you finish replaceing it. Do the replacement when the machine has fully stopped after completing its wash cycle.
Repair technician quoted 250 while the solonid costed me only 86. I did not charge labour to myself:)
Hope this is helpful.

My old Hoover top loader Washer is noisy & doesn't spin out properly - how can I fix it?

Sounds like the switch which cuts the machine off when the load is unbalanced. My guess is that: This switch is being triggered too easily The springs holding the bowl up are either stretched or one is broken; The machine may not be level.
