Your main / idle fuel jet is likely clogged. Shutoff the fuel / drain the tank, and drop the carburetor bowl. You should see the main jet. Spray it out with carburetor cleaner and/or compressed air. DON'T insert anything metallic into the jet to try and clean it out or you will end up scarring it and rendering it useless.

I have a 3500 coleman powermate with a carb problem. It would not start, after 3 years of non use. Main jet was plugged. I used a pipe cleaner soaked in gas to clear it by removing the float bowl and swabbing out the main jet. Be gentle, as not to scratch the inside of the jet however. Two pulls and it ran like new. Clean is the word. Gently clean the choke plate inside the carb. Remove the inline fuel filter and see if you can blow through it. If not , replace it. Not really the big deal I was expecting. You don't even have to remove the carburator to do this. Hope this helps anyone who has the same problem. Its just a common since job. Good Luck

Is the exhaust holed? If so, i's possible for the exhaust to form a comustible mixture in the muffler, and periodically ignite, causing the popping. If not, this can indicate a lean mixture. Most HM100's have adjustable jets - back off the main jet about 45 degrees. If the carb is not adjustabe, it wll have to be removed and properly cleaned out.

HM100 tecumseh

Did you buy the starter separate? If it came with the engine, it should already be hooked up. If you have to wire it yourself, there is a PDF file online (Tecumseh Technician's Handbook) that tells how to wire it up.
