Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

2 Answers

Dell Inspiron 1501 wont power on (no power-on light), nor gives any indication of starting power-on. Power adapter blinks when connected to laptop, but stops blinking and stays lit when removed from laptop. Power adapter is a Targus (APA63). Thanks in advance for any help...

The first thing I would do is see if a local shop has a power adapter for your laptop and see if they will let you try it out. If the computer comes on, then the short is somewhere in the adapter and not the computer (which should save you quite a bit of money). If the computer still doesn't come on then this likely means that there's a short inside your laptop. Usually this happens from the DC Jack on the motherboard being damaged (ie: something got inside the jack, someone tripped over the power adapter cord and broke the inside of the jack, the jack just wore out after alot of use and is shorting out somewhere inside). Most likely you'll have to have the jack replaced. This could get expensive. The laptop has to be completely disassembled to replace the jack. This is a precise process for the tech, from start to finish. There are alot of delicate parts and little screws to keep track of. There is a chance that it's something other than the jack on the motherboard. Usually this happens from some kind of liquid being dumped on the computer. If this is the case then you'll likely have to get the motherboard replaced. That will cost you $250 or more, depending on the going rate of the replacement motherboard, and the service rate of the tech doing the work.

This seems like there is a device causing this problem. Disconnect the battery, hard drive, optical drive, hinge cover, keyboard, palm rest.disconnect the above devices one after the other and check the functionality each time. You can find a service manual at www.support.dell.com from the left click on manual, when opted choose your model and follow the service manual. This should help you. All the best.

I have an Inspiron 1100 and the lights on the front of the laptop are blinking amber what do i do

That is a power issue.
Power OFF the laptop so the lighhts stop blinking.
Wait a minute
Remove the battery
Plug in the AC power adapter and start the laptop.
It should turn on.

Wait for the laptop to "settle down" and then
insert the battery and let it charge for a few hours.

If it still doesn't work, let us know. There are a couple of other things that it could be, but they are also power related.

check if the power ac adapter pin the goes to the side of the laptop is damage, if not then try connecting ac adapter with laptop to a diff power wall socket, if fails then replace the motherboard.

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad
