My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

I've got a DG834 connected to my computer - this has been working ok for several years. I now am trying to add a Canon Pixma MX870 to the network. But i can't get the network to recognise that I've added...

If you can connect it directly using an ethernet cable first, ensure it works OK, then do it wirelessly, it should start connecting correctly.

If not, remove the security settings for wireless connection. Go through the procedure of connecting wirelessly, once connected, enter in security settings for wireless connection again.

My router works when connected as wireless, but when I connect an ethernet cable to this, it does not work. This is required as I am trying to connect a network hard drive via the ethernet connection.

Hi. I suggest you double check first if the ethernet cable you're using is a known good cable if yes then that should be on your router configuration that enables you to use the ethernet cable, so I think you need to contact your Internet Service Provider regarding this matter because by default you should have the access using the ethernet cable, and they'll be the one to configure your router. Hope this helps

My Belkin wireless router isn't being recognised by my computer,is there a way to fix this without the CD?

If you connect the computer to the router , it works.
That means the wired connection is OK.
Open the set up page of the router check the wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless settings .

The router connects via ethernet and works fine but does not release a wireless connection. I am constantly using Ethernet when i desired to use wirelessely?

first delete all the preferred networks....
now scan for the wireless networks in the range...
select your network and click connect....
uncheck the checkbox "connect automatically if this device is in range"....click ok....

your problem will be solved now...

pls do rate if its useful...

you can also go to preferred networks list and edit the settings stored in the computer...

UNABLE TO PASSWORD BELKIN ROUTER

OK, I want you to remove the power and then find the little hole at rear and reset this unit, this will reset to factory, specs. Now try to reset again. You will have to re-set it up all again..Do it with a wired connection through the Ethernet port. in case you don't have a manual have included a link below... have a refresher look, perhaps you are overlooking something? en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/355

Trouble connecting wireless

first thing to do is to dissable the ethernet connection in network connections on your notebook so as the ip address does not conflict.

assuming it's XP and assuming DHCP is enabled in the router settings, right click on your wireless conection in network connections, properties>TCP/IP line, highlight it and then click properties again, then ensure obtain an ip address automatically is ticked, apply and ok, close window.

If neccasary run the wireless network wizard in new connections in network connections.

Open internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections tab and ensure that 'never dial a connection' is ticked, ok and close IE.
Open IE and click refresh a few times.
