Is the burned disk recognized in some other computer?

Is any "official" (purchased music CD, or purchased DVD video, or purchased Microsoft software) disk recognized when inserted into the device?

If you burn a disk on your computer, can your computer then read that burned disk?

Does not recognize disk

Either:
* the disk you're inserting is not "empty" -- try it on a different computer;
* you should try a different manufacturer of "blank" disks;
* you need to upgrade the "firmware" inside your CD-writer, to recognize more brands of "blank" media;
* the CD-reader is malfunctioning -- when you "cancel" the burn-attempt, and insert a commercially-produced program CD or commercially-produced audio CD, can those disks be properly read?
* you have two CD/DVD devices in your computer, and you're inserting the "blank" disk into the "wrong" device.

My cd drive wont recognize blank cd's so that i can burn files or cd's

Hello, Consuelo.

I'm making the assumption that your CD drive did burn CDs and now does not.

It's possible that your CD drive is faulty. But, some suggestions:

Run a disk drive head cleaner.

Try different CDs

Reinstall the CD driver (Device Manager - Right-click on the CD drive and select "update")

Hope this helps.

WHAT KIND OF DISKS CAN I BURN ON THIS DEVICE? THE DISKS I'M USING CD ARE NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE DRIVE!

If this is just a CD-ROM drive then you can't burn disks, it's only a reader. You need a CD burner, or CD-RW kind of drive.

When it prompts to "hit any key to load cd" it wont load.

If you have more than 1 cd/dvd drive in your computer, you have to make sure that it's in the right one for it to boot from CD. Also, if you downloaded and burned WinXP to a disk, you have to make sure that you burned the image to the disk the right way.

My dvd-cd drive wont read DVD's and wont burn music CD's. sometimes it wont even recognize that there is a disk in the drive it says please insert disk. i have a gateway MT3705 laptop.

There is a slight possibility that your drivers could be corrupt or may not be there at all. You can check that by going to the device manager and reloading the drivers. You can also try doing a system restore back to the time when your drive was working. Most likely, I would think that your cd drive would need to be replaced.

Wont recognize burned disks

This does sound like a defective drive, most likely a laser / reader issue, because the refractive properties of the CDR is different from a "pressed" disk it looks like thia failed TOC seek issue, the head starts at the center of the disk and reads outwards, the click noise is most likeley the head reaching the terminus (the outer limit of the motorised movement), the drive then unable to find the TOC gives up and decides the disk is unreadable. if this drive is within the manufacturer's Warrantee period I would reccommend sending it back.
