You can try ur onscreen keyboard for the @ sign.
you can find it in Accessories--->Ease of Access----------> OnScreen Keyboard

you can even type the following commands in RUN

in Windos Xp: type OSK
in windows Vista/win 7 in search box : type OSK

I HAVE A NEW ACER 5517 AND CAN'T GET THE @ KEY TO WORK???

First, does the #2 key work? I assume thats the same key as your at button.
If it does, if you hold the shift key and press 3, do you get the pound sign?

if the 2 key does not work, then the problem is with your #2 button. if the # key does not work, then the problem is with your shift key.

Try the right shift key, blow air into those keys, if it still does not work, you will need to replace the keyboard.

it will be covered under warranty.

Key board problem

It would seem that the keyboard may be defective. It is a fairly standard keyboard layout, so SHIFT-2 should produce the @ sign. It looks to be a fairly cheap fix:

I cant get my 'at' key to work.

Try using the other shift key. If that works, then you most likely have a dirty or defective keyboard.
Does the number 2 work? Does your shift key product uppercase letters (does it work with other keys?)
If you are having problems with a flaky keyboard, it's pretty inexpensive to replace it and reduce your stress.

I want to type @ sign from my laptop cq60 but when ever is press the shift key and the number 2 key it gives me ( " ) - sign shown in the bracket . advice whats wrong..

You need to hit the shift key on the right side of laptop and the the @ sign at the same time.
Works different then a desktop.

The@sign

I had the same problem. When I pressed shift and that comma key I got a " instead of a @.

I looked to see what on the leyboard you normally press to get a " and that's the number 2 key.

Tried pressing shift and the 2 key and hey presto, I got a @.

So it looks like @ and " have swapped places.

So shift and 2 for a @!
