What software are you using for the backup? If it is Data Protector, uncheck the software compression on your Data Protector window.

Hard disk input output error


This sounds more like an issue with your hard disk than the tape drive.
Have you tried the tape drive on another machine to see if it works better from a different backup source?

Yes it needs repair, I suppose the tapes are fine them selfs so they should work fine in another one, you will have to service the tape drive, you can get another tape drive and the tapes should work.

these tape cartridges are very slow to read & write. if u r reading a set of data & need to go back for certain data u have to rewind & wait & watch until that data area arrives. it takes a lot of time. in order to save time u need optical disk drives & dvds to backup your data. u can also ask them to convert your tape cartridge data into optical disks.

Problem with my hp Dat 160 usb backup tape drive


make sure your backup server is not preventing the media being removed

try rebooting your server, if the tape then can be ejected it is probably your backup software.

If the tape wont eject even after both server and drive have been rebooted it is probably faulty and needs to go for warranty exchange with HP

well you can contact them and ask about it, maybe the would have a simple solution to it, or possibly repairs, don't know about the price but surely over the 20usd.

you could also try contacting the seller of the product if they would ship it overseas, I've ordered a few things from over there shipped over just fine to Finland.

Tape Drive Block Size


Bit of an odd one but i agree that block size could cause an issue.

Try this link for the HP tech manual for this drive.

It may help with your issue and does detail block size changes on some systems.
