Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

Greetings I have a TOSHIBA SATELITE L20267 running XP with an AVI graphics card and it will not connect via VGA to a SAMSUNG LE46A656A1F. The TV seems to recognise that the laptop is there as the PC icon on it highlights when I plug in the VGA. I have tried another toshiba laptop running vista with an intel graphics card and it connects no problem. I have tried to duplicate, extend and monitor only settings but nothing. Is there something Im missing? Kind Regards BOB

Once you plugged in the computer. Try pressing Fn + F2 key. Or you can use the software that was provided to you by toshiba. Is it an intel graphics card or NVidia?

I have tried Fn + F2 and nothing. Im given all the various options(LCD-CRT etc) and have tried them all.

It is an Ati Radeon card.

I see. Right click anywhere on the desktop then look for your ATI software then there should be option inside ATI software for exteneded monitor. You can actually set monitor 1 and monitor 2 there, and how you would want it to be. It could be Clone or extended monitor.

    Let me know what happen.

To connect the secondary monitor vga out it has to be initiate and this is made by pressing Fn+ F4 in most computers ..if this is not the issue than you have to see the setig in the tv to make sure it is accepting the signal..and after that to be sure the signal is on ...(in case it is not working with the keyboard short-cut command ) go to the properties of the card ..and access monitor..and there should show you 2 of them monitor 1 (the lcd of the laptop ) and monitor 2 the vga out ..Click on the monitor 2..and enable it ..also see the options to be according with the tv ...The main idea is to default it cause you have the most chances to work that way ..I am referring to the second monitor in the card's settings ..you will see it is actually showing 2 monitors that are click-able for to bring them in front and set features..

If nothing seams to work ..to be sure it is not a wrong setting issue ..just run again the driver and reinstall it ..it will over-write the existing installation and also default all settings to the initial values..After that see if it works or try to initiate (enable it like I explained)

I think that the graphic card of the satellite is not compatible with the tv or the graphic card itself is faulty and in need of replacement. It works in other pc, why not work in the satellite. Meaning, the graphic card itself is the issue.

Can you recording satelite tv with external tv tuner thru s-video cable?

It is possible to record but it recommends more time.
So its helpful that you record via only satelite tv .and then transfer to your pc.

Cant use TV as Computer display

If you can disable the blue screen via the tv menu you might see something happening behind that blue ,you might be able to figure it out from there, also try to connect as directly as possible (tv/computer) even if you have to physically move one or the other, that way you can eliminate possible problems. good luck

External monitor connection problem

The problem is with the laptop. The femal VGA port is slodered to the motherboard. Once the laptop's MB has been removed you'll most likely find the solder holding the VGA in place is most likely cracked/loose. The fix would be to remove the old solider & apply new.
I can't guide you through disemble, its complex. I can include a site to help you with this.

External monitor connection problem

If you are comfortable with opening your case up you need to follow wiring from plug to system board checking proper connection to the board. If not comfortable or connections are ok then a local computer shop is your best bet.

Connecting a Toshiba lcd tv to a Sony Vaio VGC-LA3

you should have a (vga) tv-out socket usually blue with about 16 pins in it,if you have not which is unusual then refer to sony for the laptops specs and location of tv-out socket.
The Nvidia graphics card should have one I believe the Gforce go card is the one for your system unless upgraded and is advertised to support this function.
