302 Ford engine purchased used-fires up ok, idles like it has cam, runs/drives normal, but when shifted from park or neutral to drive or reverse it stalls. All vacumn systems have checked out ok, Timing, distributor ok. Must bump idle up past normal to keep idling and to go into gear. Is carburator faulty in idle circuit?

Mcdevito75 here, If you do have a cam in the engine idle will have to be higher than factory specs. anyway. Double check for vacumn leaks at the intake manifold, check the EGR valve and the portsit recieves vacumn from, if the EGR valve is operateing after the car is warmed up it can cause stalling at idle, at a stop the car will be staedy, then progessive shake and stall, if so suspect EGR vave and unit it recieves vacumn from. Also check any solinoids, dashpots on the carburetor linkage to aid in idleinmg such as when the A/C is on for proper adjustment.

1991 camry v6 - auto tranny shifts hard going into reverse and drive but otherwise shifting normal through the gears while driving.

Make sure your transmission fluid is fully topped up. If the transmission has to speed to build up fluid pressure there will be jolt as the drive is engaged from neutral. Make sure you fill up with the right fluid (use the transmission dip stick tube as the fill point). Also when measuring transmission fluid level have the engine running in 'park'.

2005 Ford Freestar. Started car, pulled out backwards turning 90 degrees for about 30 feet at end of driveway, shifted into drive, drove 100 feet to the street end of driveway, stopped, looked both ways,...

These are common for stripping the splines in the torque converter for the pump shaft. If it did this when you check the fluid with the engine running it will read overfull. To fix it you would have to remove the transmission and replace the torque converter.

What is the spark plug firing order for a 1989 Ford Bronco with a 302 Cu. In. V8 engine?

There are three kinds of 302s made from 1982-2001. 5.0L HO This engine was used in 1983-1995 Mustangs, Mark VII Lincolns, and some T-birds and Cougars. All Explorer 5.0L engines are 5.0L HO engines as well. They use the 351W firing order, 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Except for the 1983-84 Mustangs, all of these engines are roller cam equipped. They use a reverse rotation water pump and front cover. The 1994-5 Mustang and all Explorers use a unique front cover and water pump. 5.0L Full Size Car This engine was used in 1982-1990 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis. They use the 289-302 firing order, 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Most of these cars are not roller cam equipped, however sometime in the early 1990s they started using roller cams but retained the 302 firing order. They use a standard (clockwise) rotation water pump and front cover. 5.0L Truck (except Explorer) These engines are similar to the Full Size Car engines, except they use different intake manifolds and camshaft profiles. They also use the 289-302 firing order, 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. They also began using roller cams sometime in the early 1990s. They use a reverse rotation water pump and front cover.

Good Luck

Mustang 89 4 cyl 2.3 l engine starts on parking dies out on drive

if the nuetral safety was a problem the car would not start at all, sounds like you have a defective engine wiring harness, this is the most common cause of this i have seen while working for Ford.

What engine? Rear wheel drive ?Sounds like shift linkage or cable out of adjustment slightly. Have a look at where cable or rod attaches to transmission for adjustment. If not sure of what your looking for get back to me with info.

1990 Ford Probe 2.2 automatic stalls in forward, reverse OK

Sounds like a bad IAC (idle air control valve/sensor) that controls your idle when going from throttle to idle. If bad your idle will act crazy and can cause stalls easily. Pretty sure that's it.
