Ether the unit is very dirty and needs to be cleaned as far as the heads go or you got a bad head inside. This will be determined by a camera shop most likely its just dirty and needs its heads cleaned. A HI 8 still is a magnetic tape and thus dirty or dust can get in the recoder head and thus obscure the color or recording. I would be on the safe side here and have a camera shop take a look is you best bet.

Thanks and please do be considerate and leave feedback and ratings for your free answer today.

True there might not be any NEW parts hanging around to repair this Welcomejee, I do respect and invite comments like this, but there are people that have these cameras and those wind up on ebay with maybe a broken screen or what have you on ebay thus guess what instant parts if your the winning bidder, Welcomejee is correct tho parts would be scarce but did you try my suggestions before you rated?

Playback is black and white

if this is b/w on the tv then you have a settings problem.

you need to check you connected the camcorder to the tb correctly, it should be yellow for video and red and white for audio, and you could try looking at the tv menus

if its the camcorder then check the cc monitor. and all the settings. Get anew dv tape and record something , check its colour then play it through the tv.

Problems with playing cassettes recorded on a hi8 camera

DCR TRV140E is a Digital8 camera
CCD TRV87E is a Hi8 camera,
(Hi8 is an analog format)
the tapes are the same size, wont help, the recording systems are not compatible
send them to a lab service ?maybe if there are only a few
or ebay a Hi8 camera and transcode them yourself

its not a solution, at least it clarifies the problem

Play back problem

Your camera playback heads appear to be dirty. You can purchase a head cleaner cassette from an electronics store or take it to a service centre where they will clean the heads.

Check that the tape itself is not damaged, as this can cause the same symptoms.
