The most common cause of failure of a CD drive is the bearings on the drive motor have trashed themselves, and it cannot reliably spin fast enough, or it won't spin at all.A tip for you - your CD drive is spun by Windows a lot even when you are not using it, just in case you might want to access it, sometimes even when no LED is lit up. It is partly for this reason that no CD drive is warrantied for more than a year anymore. Your CD drive will last much longer if you always take out the CDs when you are not using them.

Risk of losing data by re-booting CD-ROM recovery disk

Copy off your data to another computer before recovering. A recovery usually restores to factory settings and loses all data.
You could boot to Ubuntu or Linux and copy your stuff that way, then when restored, copy it back.

Cleaning the CD-ROM drive's lens using the cleaning disc is sometimes not enough. In your case, you need to clean the lens by wiping it with a dry cotton lint free cloth. If you have a lens cleaning liquid from the CD disc cleaning kit, you can moisten the cloth with a drop of that liquid. Then, you should gently wipe the lens with this cloth.
After this is done, test your CD-ROM drive. If you still experience the same problems, then you will need to replace the whole CD-ROM drive.

My DVD-CD rom (TSST corp. DVD +-RW TS-L63H) don't function or maybe it was corrupted by virus.

Hello,

The problem might be that the DVD-CD rom might be having a lens/laser problem, the lens might be weak and cannot read discs anymore. So it would not be functioning anymore. The solution to that is for you to get the laptop opened and remove the DVD-CD rom Then open the CD rom up and replace the lens.

Also the problem might be that the DVD-CD rom might have been disconnected from the inside, so all you have to do to solve that problem is for you to open the laptop up and try a new connector cable and secure the connection to the mother board is tight, then run the CD rom after reassembling the laptop together.

Take care and good luck

I can't import anything or burn a disc

A cd rom or dvd rom are not functional as burners. You need cd burner or dvd burner.
your question is not clear as to what configuration you have, but confirming that your hardware is capable of burning cd's / dvd's is your first step.

try taking out the cd-rom out of the system and then hook it back up. Go into your BIOS and see if its being recognized in there, if it is then let it boot back up into windows and see if the device is okay. If its sitll not then try another known working device in there and see if the cd-rom works now. If it does then you know the original cd-rom was bad. If it still doesn't then it could be the motherboard controller that the cd-rom hooks up to is bad.

in the BIOS, If the cd-rom doesn't show up or if it shows weird symbols then try another cd-rom and if you get the same symptoms then the motherbard is bad.

Machine won't recognize CD-ROM after harddrive format

When booting up select whichever key gets you into the Bios. Normally either F2 or delete. Once in the Bios, find the boot up sequence and by the instructions that will be there to change the sequence change it to Floppy Drive, then CD Rom, then your hard drive with Windows on it. Press F10 to save and reboot.
