Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I bought MAYTAG Washer model #mtw6500tq 4 yrs ago paided bout 7$700.00 or $800.00for it well it has gone out and now maytag is telling me I'll have to pay a repairman mimn 2 hrto have a repairman look at it, to see why it went out. For the money I paid I would have though it would have lasted longer than 4 yrs. Well I would rather buy another washer than pay maytag, send someone to take any more of my money. And this time I will buy a whirlpool as I will never buy another maytag product again and when ever I see some one looking at any maytag appliance's I will tell them about my dealing with maytag at any major appliancestore or dept. store

A foul smell is coming out of the washer. The clothes don't smell, just the washer. I don't know what to do. Maytag MTW6600TQ0

for smelly situations like this you can use half gallon of bleach with no clothes in it full load cycle let it sit 15-30 min's full of water then let it run through all cycles if you want you mix it a half cup of baking soda too and it should do it.

F50 fault on maytag MTW6500TQ washer after apprximately 1 minute of startiong cycle

Two things cause the dreaded F50 code. (motor)

1. The machine control

2. The stator

The upper cover of the stator comes in kit form and has been known to also cause the dreaded F50 code.

All of them are some what costly repair(s) in my book but cheaper than a new machine.

I have yet to change a Stator for an F50 Code.... but have changed a lot of machine controls (most often failure) and stator cover kits (occasional failure) that corrected the problem.

Just being honest. Thanks for using FixYa!

Strange sound Maytag top load washer about 4 yrs old

It sounds like your bearings went bad. Using powder soap kills the bearings. THis also depends on the model of maytag. IF you lean the washer back look to see how many belts it has. if it has one it is really a maytag made by amana. Those are known for bad bearings. So good luck with your bearing problem. You will probably have to call out a technician Its a big job.

Maytag Atlantis

Mine is doing the same thing. In 2004 (might be 2003 or 2005), Maytag redesigned the insides. They were getting complaints from the Maytag dealers and repairmen about having to replace the bearings on so many of the machines. Maytag redesigned the entire part and paid all customers to have it replaced. My machine had the bearing replace and the entire part replaced. It fixed it for a little while, but started doing it again not long after. I happened to be the bookkeeper for the Maytag dealer I bought my washer from. He was so frustrated with Maytag (along with many others who attended the same Maytag repair schools). Maytag never did recall the product. Only offered to replace it for free and waited out the warranty on these bad washers. They have now gone back to the original "dependable" design, but it does not help us who are still having issues and out of warranty. I never have understood why they weren't forced to recall the product. Or how they could choose to voluntarily replace the bearings until the warranty was out but never have to stand by the product afterwards. This very washer was the demise of the business I worked for. Not only was this struggling dealer having to spend all of his time repairing these washers but customers were no longer willing to by the "dependable" Maytag anymore. In fact, my boss said "So much for the lonely Maytag repairman" like the commercials always say. He visited with many in the same line of business in the smaller towns and they were all struggling also. Many customers held them responsible and began shopping at the big box stores for other brands.

I can't remember what the part was exactly. It had to do with a part that had two bearings one on top and bottom....seems like it was in the transmission.

Maytag washer repair

I had the repair guys out 3 months ago maytag paid for labor I paid $150 for seal and bearings, tub froze and belt broke. the tub now is making the loud screams that others complain about I contacted maytag and reapir servce and talked with the tech. this machine is a piece of S$%^ the seal fails on a regular basis and bearings get water in them. I just missed my 3 month waranty and will not pay for that repair again. people at home depot agree that this machine is trouble. the machine must be taken completely down from the top to replace the bearings and or the belt. the tub must be removed. If you call maytag they will pay for the labor but not the parts.

Maytag Legacy Series Leaking

I have the same problem as many other Maytag owners of this model machine have. I spoke to a repairman and he told me to "junk" the machine. He said the cost was about $300 to $350 to fix and he WOULD NOT guarantee his work on this machine. He said that Maytag knew of the problem but refused to do any sort of a recall.
My solution:
1. Buy another machine and junk the Matag
2. Tell all your frends and neighbors NOT TO BUY MAYTAG...
3. Drop the old machine off on the MAYTAG door step.
