I can not operate the internal Flash. Do not understand the #1 fix comment.
" Flash Control" can not be selected in " Menu".

    External Flash is okay.

When flash is manually selected in any shooting mode (even AUTO) the flash icon blinks on the LCD screen and the camera doesn't shoot

  • rgomenr Oct 29, 2008

Hi guys, I have the same problem too. When flash is manually selected
in any shooting mode (even AUTO) the flash icon blinks on the LCD
screen ans the G9 cannot shoot.
It happened suddenly, before it worked OK.
I have another problem but I don´t know if it is related to the flash one.
    After
a certain time, the camera ask me to replace the battery pack, even if
it is fully charged. I have tried with two different original cannon
    batteries with the same result.
Have any of you experienced the same thing?

Did you check the scroll wheel to make sure it is on auto and not disabled. Such small dials it is easy to change this setting by accident especially when you are adjusting the little area of focus feature.

SOURCE: G9 flash

In your display, is the small lightning symbol appear on the screen? Try cycling through the various flash options by pressing the "flash" lightning symbol to the right of the monitor. If the flash is set to flash when there's not enough light at the G9's descretion (with an "A" next to the symbol) then the flash may or may not go off. I oftentimes set the flash to go off all the time if the camera is not doing it automatically (with the A next to the symbol). Being in Auto mode versus the other preset exposure modes affect the flash options available too.

G9 build in flash does not work but external flash will works on my canon g9.

Most of the time you just need to have the flash replaced on the camera. Of course it could be something else. I would say to email them at www.camerasandparts.com They have a service package for your G9 which will fix the problem no matter what is causing it, plus they service up the whole camera for you at the same time. They do top-notch work on these cameras and are much less than most places since they're service packages are a flat-rate.

My G9 wont open the battery is charged

When my former wife arrived from a European trip, she was very upset because suddenly the Canon G9 I had lent her wouldn't open. It was right before Christmas too. I immediately went on line and found Cameras and Parts which was highly recommended by others. After having an unproductive conversation with Canon in which they claimed their was not a general problem with the G9, I contacted Cameras and Parts. I'm happy to report that the camera was fixed in no time and cost about half of what Canon wanted - plus it was refurbished and works great. So you might try Cameras and Parts.

My camera was left on and died. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself or do I have to send it off to get it repaired?

Very often on the G9's, they get the problem of the loose screws inside the camera leaving it with no power from the short. Unless you are very skilled, I would leave it to a shop so it can get fixed right.
If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com they just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras and they are completely familiar with this problem. They actually have this issue right there on there site under their service packages. They charge $89 for everything, you get the parts, labor and return shipping all included with them. The neat thing is they automatically include the internal no power correction to any G9 they repair and the other nice thing is they also include all of the service for the camera at the same time.
If you need help with a Canon Powershot, they're the place. They do wonderful work on these models.

Canon G9 Flash not firing and not able to find flash on the menu

Assuming there's not really a fault on the camera. Have you got it dialed into a pre-set photo option ? This may negate the flash. Suggest going through the settings menu, putting everything to auto and trying again.

The internal flash unit on my Canon Powershot G9 no longer works. I cannot make it work.

Might need to have the flash replaced or it could be the hot shoe detection switch in the camera, it might think you are using an external flash when you are not. Try going to this site: www.camerasandparts.com. They only service powershots and they'll help you if you have a problem with one of these. If you need to have it serviced, they are terrific and about half the price of many shops. Hope that helps get you in the right direction anyway.

My powershot G9 built in flash is not working

There is a switch on the hot shoe to detect the external flash. When you use an external flash, the switch will be pressed down, then the unit will bypass the internal flash and won’t let it fire. If the little switch gets stuck somehow, you won’t get your internal flash on.
Check this switch on the hot shoe (either on the left side or the right side), blow some compressed air then plug/unplug an external flash several times. Hopefully you can get it back
