Question about GPX KCLD8886DT 8.1 in. Portable Television

2 Answers

It worked fine. We went out of town and when we got home the clock/channel display is lit but blank. None of the buttons respond and there is a CD inside the drawer which won't open. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is a GPX model KCLD8886DDT under counter/cabinet unit. Thanks!

There is no hole to use as a release for the CD/DVD drawer. I've tried the tapping suggestion but no results. The power button won't even turn on, although when it's plugged in, the display screen glows blue (with no display). Any other help to get the drawer open (outside of breaking it)?

Thanks. It's what I suspected. I think I'll disassemble it and retrieve the CD. Beyond that...maybe a new product. Again, thanks.

HI. This is a classic power surge issue. During your away time, there may have been some sort of power black out or surge that may have ruined the internal Micro Board. There are several logic chips mounted on this particular board. If the unit was left plugged in while you were away, This would expose the unit to this sort of damage. To confirm logic chip failure, simply unplug the unit for five minutes. Once the five minute reset has passed, re-introduce power to the unit and try to initiate a command. If you experience the same results as before(blank screen), this will confirm the failure to the internal micro board.

Internal PCB failure is very serious and will require you to have the affected board replaced, asap.

    Concerning the drawer:

This is a mechanized gear driven drawer. Due to the fact that the main board has sustained over-current damage, this will render the actual drawer gear and motor assembly useless, therefore, causing the drawer to remain in the original position prior to the disruption. The only way to extract the CD will be to totally disassemble the casing. This will expose the internals and drawer mechanism. The gears will not move without proper motor function. The drawer will need to be forced, in return, possibly damaging the unit loader assembly(gears tracking rail etc..)

Sometimes there may be a small hole beneath the drawer. Push a small pin through it and press the eject button. Then push the pin well into the hole. The drawer may come out. If the hole is absent, press the eject button and tap hardly above the drawer for a few times. The drawer will come out with the C.D. Sometimes you may have to tap quite for sometime. Give it a few tries and see if it works.

Thanks for your suggestion. So far, the tapping and pushing the button hasn't worked. I will try a few more times later on and see if I have any luck! There is no hole anywhere that I can push to release the drawer. And it's just a bit too small to insert something like a small screwdriver and pry it open. If you have any other thoughts I'd be happy to hear them and give them a try before asking for more help.

If you google this item, you can see a picture of it which may give you some clue as to another way to approach it. It's mounted under my kitchen cabinets so I can't get at the top, but I don't recall any hole there. I will have to remove it soon at any rate, so I can check then and see if by any lucky chance there is a "release" hole that I can't see presently.

I cannot get the functions on the remote to operate.ie pbass dsp/eq etc?

The P.BASS function is only available with 2 channel LPCM sources such as mp3,Divx,cd
and wma. Press P.BASS button and "POWER BASS ON" will be displayed on the screen.
The P.bass does not work with DSP/EQ or DOLBY PRO LOGIC ll modes.
If you press P.BASS in the DSP/EQ mode, the DSP/EQ mode is automatically shut off and the P. BASS function comes on.
The DSP/EQ function is only available in STEREO mode.
Press the PL ii mode button to show STEREO on the display.
This feature works with CDs, MP3-CDs, 2 channel DVD-Audio, DivX and Dolby Digital discs.
When playing a DVD disc encoded with two or more channels, multi-channel mode will be selected automatically and DSP/EQ function does not work.
