The jeep stalled and wouldn't restart determined the fuel pump had gone out because there was no fuel present at the pressure test port replaced fuel pump the jeep ran great for about 15 minutes and stalled again and wouldn't restart we have checked the fuses the relays even the cannon plug at the tank to make sure we didn't screw up ..everything checks will the throttle positon sensor cause this particular problem?

TPS will not cause that. I would check the crank position sensor and the asd relay to make sure both are good. By checking, do you mean that you looked at the relay and plug or have you established that both the ground and power are present at the harness plug and at the relay and also that there is continuity between the relay and the harness plug at the pump?

are you sure there is enough gas in it?

  • Anonymous May 29, 2010

we checked for damage or corrosion its clean and free of damage at the cannon plug, when it stalled i bypassed the fuel pump using a pressureized fuel tank and it runs ok enough to drive it back home the self diagnostic in the vehicle runs through and says done no errors
relay was replaced no blown fuses what about fuel pressure regulator? or what ever controls the fuel pumps cycle, and to answer Doug yes it has a half tank of gas

2002 Dodge Dakota v-6 won't start the battery so good the starter is good it turns over and cranks but nothing happens I tried starter fluid in the carb.

Here are the usual suspects:
stuck fuel valve/float valve in the carburetor.
clogged fuel filter. or fuel line.
defective fuel pump.
electric fuel pump may be just a blown fuse, or wiring problem. good hunting.

1995 jeep cherokee stalls regularly and then restarts. problem persists. any answer?

Souhds like you may have a weal fuel pump.Check your fuel pressure if not within the specs replace fuel filter first and if pressure is still low then replace the fuel pump.Your fuel pressure should be 31-39 psi with key on and engine off.

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 6 cyl. It will stall while I am driving, and may restart right away or may not restart for 20 minutes. I keep hearing this is a common problem for these Jeeps...

check fuel pressure regulator.....Fuel on one side of diaphrag, and vacuum pressure on other if there is fuel on the vacuum side then diaphragm is leaking...causing ecu to think there is plenty of pressure and holds back the signal to turn on fuel pump....

Hard to start in the morning. Also stalls

This sounds like a fuel pump check valve problem, if the fuel is not kept in the filter and lines by the check valve it drains back into the fuel tank and causes the kind of problems you are having, you can check this by hooking up a fuel pressure guage at the test port on the fuel manifold that supplies fuel to the injectors, run the engine and shut it down, note the fuel pressure at shut down (with the test guage hooked up), walk away for an hour, come back and check the pressure, it should not have dropped more than 5 PSI You can buy a universal fuel injection pressure tester for about $25.00, cheaper than having a shop run the test. If the pressure drops you found the problem, bad news is the check valve is in the pump, the pump is in the gas tank.

If the Jeep is stalling when hot and hard to restart, replace the crankshaft sensor.

Engine stall

The fuel injectors may need to be cleaned. Also the issue could be the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. You can test this by renting a fuel pressure guage from the auto store and hooking it up to the fuel rail on your engine. The port you hook it to is called a schrader valve and looks similar to a tire stem valve. If the pressure is low the problem could be either the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump. Good luck and if you found this solution helpful please rate it.
