Computer not responding at bootup

My Acer 5672 is not working right. It seems to boot up fine. Then the boot screen appears with the mouse cursor in the middle, but the touchpad (synaptics touchpad) doesn't respond. The computer continues to boot and my desktop appears, but the keyboard doesn't respond either. Now normally if I turn the computer off manually by pressing the power button, it only takes about 4 seconds, in its present condition it takes anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute. I have system restored a couple of different times, but no success. Safe mode seems to work ok at times, but sometimes it will take anywhere from a couple minutes to 20 minutes to boot into safe mode. I have no idea what exactly I should do at this point.

Hmm, hadn't thought about that. That might be a good idea. I am fairly certain that it isn't under warranty. I will see if anything turns up... thanks.

Hi, my acer aspire 5672 just started doing the same thing. Boots fine but no mouse or keyboard, they do work in safe mode. I even got it to work once with a usb mouse. Tried restore and, stop all startup programs to no avail. Have you fixed yours?

If it works in safe mode, it is not a hardware issue but rather a software issue. You didn't mention what Operating System you are using (which version of Windows), but if you go to msconfig and run a selective startup, eliminating things that you don't need, you might be able to track down the offending item.

If your laptop is under warrant (or even if it isnt) you should take it into a repair shop or to geek squad at best buy.
they are really good about fixing laptops for an ok price
it sounds like a hardware issue
possible something shorting out or fried or loose

My acer aspire 5742Z touchpad is too sensitive or I don't really know how to use it. Every time I touch it something stupid happens on screen. Now it has turned my screen dispay side on and I have to use...

Definitely your touchpad is TOO SENSITIVE!
To modify the sensitivity just go
START > CONTROL PANEL > MOUSE/TOUCHPAD and adjust there the sensitivity by dragging the cursor to the LEFT until it reaches the middle.
In PROPERTIES just re-invert the functions of your touchpad to get rid of the mixed axes.

My cursor on my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop is stuck in the middle of my screen the touch pad isn't working either I was wondering how i could fix this

Try an external mouse. You might have to turn off the touchpad in BIOS (F2 key on boot will get you into setup). Look for Mouse/Touchpad under 'Post Behavior' or perhaps elsewhere (differently displayed in various BIOS setups).

Cursor is frozen and can;t move on my laptop

Plug in a USB mouse, and go to Contol Panel>system>device manager and click on the +sign next to pointing devices. Right click touchpad and uninstall the touchpad, then reboot the computer, remove the usb mouse. Windows will pick up the touchpad as new hardware and re-install the drivers for it etc..

I hope this helps

Touchpad not working

If you are not computer savvy I do not recommend you trying to replace the touchpad, it usually involves completely disassembling the notebook.

Simpliest solution - plug in a usb mouse.

Acer aspire 5520 startup problem

Michelle-

I had the same problem with the cursor jumping around. My cousin bought the same computer and had the same problem! What she told me to do was go to the touchpad icon on the bottom right. Then click tapping and then check the box that says "tap off when typing."
It seems to have worked for us.
