    HP PRINTER 5P
    AFTER REMOVING PAPER JAM.
PRINTER STATUS SAYS "OUT OF PAPER"
    PAPER TRAY IS FULL.

  • tomk1 Apr 08, 2008

PRINTER DOES NOT SOUND LIKE IT IS ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE PAPER.

  • tomk1 Apr 08, 2008

I"VE TRIED EVERYTHING YOU SUGGESTED, TURNED IT OFF/ON, HELD THE PAPER SWITCH IN, TRIED TO PUT A SHEET OF PAPER IN, SAME RESULT

  • tomk1 Apr 08, 2008

THE COMPUTER AND THE PRINTER INDICATE THAT THE PAPER TRAY IS EMPTY.

  • tomk1 Apr 08, 2008

I CAN TURN THE WHEEL THAT FEEDS THE PAPER BUT NOTHING MOVES. I ALSO PUSHED A SHEET OF PAPER ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO MOVE.

  • tomk1 Apr 08, 2008

CANNOT SEE IF ROLLERS ARE TURNING

  • tomk1 Apr 08, 2008

THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THE ERROR MESSAGE SAID I HAD NO PAPAER IN THE TRAY. I DIDN'T TELL ME THAT THERE WAS A PAPER JAM

I've had this happen with my Laserjet 5P.

In my case it was one of two things.

  1. The paper size had gone haywire, telling the computer it was trying to print on tabloid paper, which it cannot do. You can see this in the "Advanced" part of the print dialog. In that case, of course it reads that it's out of paper because it does not, in fact, have tabloid paper in it. It insisted on its paper size until I removed the printer definition and reinstalled it.
  2. The document, for some reason, has decided it's too big to fit on letter paper. This happens mostly with PDFs or web pages. In this case, you have to remind the printer to "fit on page."

Try disconnecting the printer from your computer, and simultaneously press the GO and RESET buttons to print a self-test page. The self-test won't try to use a crazy paper size, and this should tell us if that is in fact the problem, or if it is something else.

I would first try shutting off the printer and disconnecting it to see if it resets and also remove the paper and place it back in.

Please let me know whether this helps or if you already tried this. I can give other options that it may be.

ok, if the above didn't work then try disconnecting the printer from the printer and reconnecting it and turn off both and then restart both

    Here's what I would suggest trying -

try to print again, and when it starts making motions to pull the paper
in, push the paper in with your fingers, and see if it starts feeding
in. Most likely what's happened is the paper feed rollers need to be
cleaned off, and this is a good check to find out.

have you tried my latest comment? What was the outcome of trying to push the paper in? Please say something other than still not working. We need to work together. Please tell me what you have tried and what hasn't worked. We can't magically say fix and it will. We need your help!!!

If the printer is still under warranty and even if it's not, contact HP if this problem persists, they have replaced printers in the past for FREE with paid shipping if the printer just won't work.

Does the printer or does the computer have the error message showing, and by your latest response I gather that the rollers do not spin at all? May I ask what you have exactly tried so far so I know where to go from there. Thanks alot.

Are you able to see if the rollers are turning?

  • Benjamin Patri
    Benjamin Patri Apr 08, 2008

well if the rollers don't turn when it is trying to print, then it sounds like mechanical failure or a connection failure

Please try the following link even though I know that you probably have done most of it already, it still wouldn't hurt to try again

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec...

    the number for hp is

    800-HP invent

    or
    800-474-6836

they can be called 24/7, I would see if they would send you a new printer free of charge. They may make you run through the same things that we have tried but other than actually looking at it myself, I can't say for sure what it is. Since you had a paper jam, it may be possible that there is still paper stuck somewhere in the rollers or gears or it may just be a communication error. Give everything in the above link one more try and then I would just call HP and see what they can do for you. Printers are a pain in the rear end sometimes

    Good luck

Thanks for the update with the rollers, though not seeing them isn't going to help me all that much, please follow through with my previous post and feel free to contact me with anything else

have you checked the sensor that would detect the paper?

I would remove the paper and try to blow it out with a can of compressed air

Have you gotten this working yet with the information I provided?

There is a small switch inside whee the paper is that needs to be set (pressed) against by the paper.
Check to see if the switch was damaged or maybe there is a peice of paper in there yet at the paper tray preventing the switch frombeing pressed by the paper.

5P/5MP only prints to back tray now.

Face the printer. Lightly put a finger on the rollers at the back of the printer where the paper exits the printer while you are printing. If they arn't turning that's why the jams. A tech will probably have to look at it. That is the "face down delivery assembly"

R@hotmail.co.ukplease show where to plug laptop into printer

The 5P has connections in the back of the printer, left hand side, under a removable panel. The power plug is under a similar panel on the right side. (as you face the printer from the front) There are connections for appletalk and serial under that left panel but not USB. If you want to use this printer with a modern computer you will have to work from either a serial port or an ethernet converter such as the Asante. Plug the ethernet into your router or RJ 45 jack on the computer and on the Asante. Plug appletalk from the round connector on the Assante into the HP 5P. NOTE: The 5p will not work with a Mac. The 5MP printer will.

• Our HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 printer is now 3 years old. Last Friday, it began making an unusual clicking sound while giving an error message indicating that a paper jam needs to be fixed. We have...

Did you closely inspect the sensors that "detect" a paper-jam?
The sensor could be stuck, and thus would be sending a FALSE signal.

Take the printer to a qualified technician, and explain the symptoms.
Get an estimate of the cost to repair it, and compare with the cost to replace it.

HP printer still show ''paper jam status' after paper jam is removed, how do I clear so it will resume printing?

Hi,
There is a technique known as cold resetting. It basically will set all your HP printer settings to the factory default levels.
Switch off your printer and then hold down the 'Go' key. Switch back the printer on while holding the 'Go' button till the light comes on. Then release the button.
Hope this helps.

HP deskjet F380 - 'status: paper jam'. There is no paper jam!

Unplug the power cord and while doing that make sure printer is powered on i mean do not turn off the printer using the power button. When you unplug the power cord than press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Than release the power button and connect the power cord and then try to print.

Will not print

i think some **** of paper might be stuck inside the printer mechanism, carefully check it. if no, try the following :
* unload the cartridges and reload it back
* keep the printer offline (disconnect from the pc) and try copying something
* realign the cartridges with a former printed alignment sheet (i think u may have known how to align it)

Paper jam

When you turn the machine on, does it get to READY status or does it go into a jam message right away?

If it gets to READY status, and you get a jam code after you try to print, then your feed rollers might be either dirty or worn. Try cleaning the rollers with with Goo-Gone which is a pretroleum based cleaner that wont dry out the rollers.

If it never gets to the Ready status, then you either have a stuck or broken sensor in your printer. This would be harder to troubleshoot. 1st you would have to know where the sensors are located, and then would have to be able to clean/check and or replace it.

Hope its the easier solution.
Good luck
