Sleep/hibernate mode

Hi, If the computer seem to wake from sleep mode for no reason? Some device settings can cause the computer to return from a power savings state when not expected. If the computer is using an optical mouse, changes in light can cause the computer to wake. Network activity can cause the network hardware to wake the computer, especially when the network is always on (like cable and DSL connections). High Definition Audio audio may also cause the computer to wake from sleep mode. Use the following steps to prevent the these hardware devices from waking the computer:
  1. Click Start c00847244.gif , and then right-click Computer .
  2. Select Properties , and then click Device Manager in the left panel of the window.
  3. Click the plus sign ( + ) next to the device that needs to be adjusted. If you are using an optical mouse, select Mice and other pointing devices . If the computer is using an "always-on" connection, click Network Adapters . To check the high definition audio, click Sound, video, and game controllers .
  4. Double-click the name of the device to open a Properties window.
  5. Click the Power Management tab, and remove the selection from Allow this device to wake the computer . Figure 6: Power management tab for a mouse c00851648.gif NOTE: If you prevent the mouse from being able to wake the comuter, wake the computer using the Sleep button on the keyboard or from the power button on the front of the computer.
  6. Click OK , close the windows that are open, and then restart the computer.
  7. Click Start c00847244.gif , and select the Sleep/Standby button to see the problem still exists: If the problem still exists, go to the next Step.
  8. Disconnect all non-essential connected devices (printers, scanners, USB drives).
  9. Restart the computer with only the original mouse, monitor, and keyboard connected. If this resolves the sleep/standby problem, one of the connected devices was causing the problem. Replace one device and test to see if the problem occurs again. Continue adding devices and testing until the you find the device that is causing the problem.
If you have already tried all the above steps, you can try the steps below: Many software components start up automatically and run without being seen. Most of these programs are not necessary to the work performed on a computer, but can interfere with sleep/standby mode. For troubleshooting purposes use the following steps to prevent programs from starting when Windows is first opened.
  1. Click Start c00847244.gif , and then type msconfig into the Search field and then press the Enter key.
  2. The System Configuration Utility appears. Click the General tab, select Selective startup , and then and remove the check from Load startup items . c00847247.png
  3. Click OK to accept the changes and restart the computer.
  4. After completing these steps, Windows opens using Selective Startup. A small reminder may appear when Windows restarts. Select Don't show this dialog again and click OK to prevent the reminder from re-appearing every time the computer is restarted.
NOTE: To undo the changes made in this process repeat the steps above and replace the checkmark next to Load startup items .
  • If disabling Load startup items did not resolve the suspend problem, go to the next step.
  • If disabling Load startup items resolved the suspend problem, enable one startup item and test to see if the problem occurs again. Continue enabling startup items, until you find the software task that is causing the problem. Remove or update problem software.
If the problem still exists, go to the next Step. Upgrading the BIOS and keyboard software If the sleep button on the keyboard still does not work, go to the HP Software and Driver Download page , enter your computer model number into the field provided, and install any keyboard and BIOS updates for Windows Vista. Should you require any further assistance regarding this issue or any other computer related issue in future please feel free to contact get back to us, we will be more than glad to assist you.

* check com cable all thru the video card socket, also check you video graphic card pci if its inserted properly, try to clean it first.

* might your pc is in Hibernate or Sleep mode

A power management mode that conserves power by powering down the system. In hibernate mode the current state of the system is saved to the hard drive, and the system will power down. When a user turns the system power back on, the saved information is read from the hard disk, restoring the last used settings. Hibernate mode is similar to sleep mode, however in sleep mode the power cannot be shut off.

go to control panel > power management and change or default the settings you wish.

Proper shut down

Hi doodu13appa,

Nothing beats a complete "Shut Down" through the Start menu in the lower left-hand corner of your Windows screen. This allows all open windows to be properly closed, with current data saved, memory and cache cleared. This is like going to bed at night with nothing on your mind, sleeping soundly, and waking up refreshed in the morning.

Then, when the computer is powered up the next time, it will be operating at its optimum performance levels without being "bogged" down with excessive leftover garbage from previous sessions. There's nothing wrong with powering your laptop, or desktop, down by clicking the power button and letting it go into standby, sleep, or hibernate mode, much of the time. It leaves you with a quick-startup the next time you are ready to use your computer, and most of your open programs will still be running in the background. Clicking on your logon will have your right back where you last left off.

LCD monitor goes blank

It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)

My computer will not go to stand by or sleep mode

Were you able to make the computer go to sleep mode before? Well what you can try doing is go to start, run and type msconfig, click ok. You will get the system configuration window, then go to the startup tab in the system configuration window and at the bottom of the window there is a button as disable all, click that and on the same window there are startup items, select the antivirus program and items that you would need to have at the task bar. Then click apply and ok. You will get a message to restart the computer. Click restart. As it restarts you will get a message saying that you have used the system configuration window, click do not show me the message again in the message. Also you can go to start, right click on My computer and go to properties, click the hardware tab, and select the device manager button. That would show you the device manager window. From the list of hardwares listed in the window, right click on network adaptors, properties and under the power management tab uncheck all the power options checkboxes. Now you can close all the windows and try to go to sleep mode again. You can also try disconnecting the USB devices as you try going to sleep mode and see if that works, if yes, try connecting the USB devices one at a time and check again.
