Question about IBM ThinkCentre A51 PC Desktop

2 Answers

IBM ThinkCentre S51 Intel Pentium 4 PC Desktop won't boot up. The power light comes on for about a second and then goes off, over and over again. It does not stop unless I unplug it. The mouse's infrared light comes off and on simultaneously, while the monitor shows nothing more than the 'no signal' message when powered on.Please advise.

Sounds like it's probably the power supply. The computer takes more power to boot up than to run, so if it can't get enough wattage it can't boot all the way up, and it will shut down and try again.

If you're comfortable opening your computer up, you can test the power supply connectors with a voltmeter or multimeter to verify. A new power supply is typically only $30 or $40.

Testimonial: "Thanks a million! I suspected it was something related, but having just purchased the computer from Tiger Direct, I was under the impression that all equipment was properly tested and verified to be in working condition. I will simply return and have them ship out another. Thanks again! DC"

Dont buy a cheap power supply..... because they can often ruin your mobo and cpu, buy one of reasonable quality from well known brands or it can do far more damage

IBM ThinkCentre S51(8172) won't boot up. The power light comes on for about and then goes off. This repeats even with power button depressed. Unplugging is the only way to stop this. It is not the power supply...have tried two and get same result. Thanks in advance for your help.

We have a parity error on our ThinkCentre S51 Desktop. What is this and how do we rectify this issue?

A RAM parity error? Just tell it (in the BIOS settings) that you don't have memory with parity installed, or replace the memory with that kind. You probably had to replace the BIOS battery and the setting defaulted to DDR with parity bits somehow.

There's serial communications parity too...mostly deprecated by USB, but it can come up in connecting POS (point of sale) printers, etc.

If the error instead arises in another context; well, you'd need to search for some enlightenment relating to that and 'parity' to get some enlightenment on the subject.

IBM Thinkcentre m50 video card

Hi, i'm getting an ATI Radeon 2600XT for this system soon. But any AGP card *should* work fine (i'm hoping), just stick to midrange cards due to the low-grade power supply. I will post after the install and let you know how it goes.
