Did you change the seals? Whenever pump motors are replaced, the ceramic shaft (mechanical) seal should be replaced. Its also a good idea to replace the seal plate and diffuser seals.

I read the answer for the 1955cadillac oil pan gasket. This gasket is made up of 4 pieces. I'm really concerned about the edges sealing so there is no leaks, any tips for this type of gasket?

Pressed steel cover gaskets of all sorts produce sealing problems in abundance, especially when cork gaskets are used. Multi-piece gaskets are used where the designer has saved weight and cost by such innovations as shortening the crankcase and deepening the oil pan and at the same time increased the chances of oil leaks.

The ends of multi-piece gaskets can be sealed with a dab of a high quality rtv silicone sealer or an adhesive sealer such as one of the special Bostik range which has been recommended by so many vehicle manufacturers.

Beware of using an excessive amount of sealer because as much squeezes inwards as outwards and the possibility of future problems are increased.

Cork gaskets should be fitted dry to avoid the problem of a sealer lubricating the surface and the gasket creeping out under clamping force instead of being compressed. Lightweight steel covers and pans always distort around the bolt holes regardless of how gently the bolts are tightened and sometimes even a dry cork gasket will be pushed from the joint and ruined.

The necessary blobs of sealer can be the death of the gasket so it is best to tighten in stages - the first stage is to merely pull the bolts down evenly so the gasket is nipped but not compressed. After about an hour the rtv will have developed a skin but will not have cured so the bolts need another half-turn and then leave the job until the cure has completed before applying the torque wrench or vast experience and finishing the job.

When the steel of a cover is particularly lightweight I find great benefit in gluing the gasket to the steel with a latex/solvent contact adhesive such as Evo-stik.

I am leaking trans fluid. What are the areas on this 3.1 auto where fluid could be lost? I assume that the pan gasket is one? Also, what is the transaxle cooler line? Could I be losing the fluid from...

The easiest way to check is put a piece of cardboard under your vehicle when it is parked in one spot. Then look for where the drip is coming from.Fluild leaks can be tricky because when you drive, the wind blows the fluid back towards the rear of the car.The fluid lines run to your radiator for cooling when you are driving your car. They can leak at either the radiator or at the transmission if so,take them loose and wrap them with teflon tape then tighten back down.. Also your pan gasket can leak which is a simple fix with some rtv sealer and a new gasket.Or you can have either a tailshaft seal leak or a front pump seal leak. The tailshaft seal is in the rear of the ****** where it meets the drivetrain. The front seal is up by the engine and the ****** would have to come out to replace that.Depending on the leak, you might try so transmission sealer additive just to see if it stops.

This question is about my 1990 Toyota Cressida. I'm in the process of replacing the valve cover gaskets because of an oil leak. My question or is it possible to remove the center piece between...

I CAN tell you that just cleaning out the plug wells is a good idea so no crud gets in the cylinders when plug is pulled. The center piece you speak of is not understood. As for the gasket sealer, yes, it's a good idea to use Black RTV on the head surface after cleaning and to stick the gasket to the valve cover.

Yes I think there is an O ring . But in any case try this, coat the outside of the pipe with RTV/Silicone gasket sealer, put it back in and let it set up for an hour or soo, this will seal the pipe.
