Saturn 2002 sl seems a small gas leak on top of gas tank-is it usally the line? cant see where on top of tank.because its still in the car. thanks.

Your getting plenty of gas(black smoke). check vacuum lines, Make sure the intake air plenum is tight(hose clamps) check the MAF sensor. After the check the fuel pressure regulator. This will dump gas into the intake also. After that go for the injectors. Stuck open will cause this.

2)fuel line test by sucking .3)air sucked up 4) no fuel in tank air leak in line 5) line obstructed vacuum lock in tank 6) fuel pump defective.

run the fault codes as it indicates an EVAP system problem
small hose from the tank to under the splash section is an air breather hose to let the air out as the fuel is rushing in

IT MAY BE LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK. SOMETIMES THE CONNECTION FROM THE LINE TO THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY CRACKS AND LEAKS LOOK UNDER THE REAR OF CAR AT THE FUEL TANK AND SEE IF THERE IS A SIGN OF FUEL

Look at your overflow tank, these caps have a psi rating and if the seal gets old the cap won't hold the pressure and releases small amounts of antifreeze. Sometimes the overflow tank will be a powder looking in spots from the hot water leaking out.

i would check the plastic pipes which run from the canister to the fuel tank ,these are usually located behind the fuel tank

The top where the pump goes in is could be leaking. Have it checked ASAP, a gas fire is a dangerous thing.

Hello. No, there is no access through the back seat. You have to remove the gas tank. You have to remove the exhaust pipes to get to the gas tank. The best way to get to it is to put the car on a lift. Once you remove the tank you will see it on top it is one piece connected to the fuel gauge and the entire thing is inserted on the top side. It is hard to get to because there is no access panel under the back seat.

the fuel pump is located inside the gas tank. You have to lower the gas tank, unlock the ring that holds it in, unhook the wires and fuel lines, and then you can lift it out.

a small evap leak can be caused by many things, and correct in most of the time it is the gas cap. i would try replacing that, and having the cel cleared. but as i said if there is another leak somewhere in the system such as the filler neck or any of the multiple solenoids and vacum lines, that will need to be taken care of as well.
