Please offer make and model number of your unit. In the meantime, is there any problem with the switch?

If this is a Bissell ProHeat cleaner, there is a heater that the water is supposed to pass through. It is not uncommon for the passageway to buildup with calcium deposits. The heater can be reamed out with pipe cleaners. Also check the passageways between the tank and the heater.

I finally had an opportunity to look at the machine. I got water to pump from the receiver of the reservoir all the way to the sprayer heads. My problem now is the reservoir. If I stick my finger into the valve I get water to come out. When I place the reservoir into the machine, I cannot get water to flow from the tank to the machne.

Is there something missing or worn that is preventing proper actuation of the valve?........or could there be some buildup on the valve that is preventing it from opening enough while in place?

Hi,
Thanks for contacting Fixya.com
Please try the Water Rinse setting. This actually helped others when its found water caming out and was suctioned properly, but on the Light Clean, Normal Clean, and Heavy Traffic settings, the unit might fail again. This is because of leaving the soap dispenser in-place, which might scum up the tubing. A resolution to this is to put one capful of the Bissell soap in the water resevoir and keep the unit on Water Rinse. It will take care of the problem and suction and dispense should work fine.
Thank You
If you donot have further queiries please donot forget to accept the solution.

Detergent doesn't dispense.

Water will clean carpets but not very well. For the best results don't put any cleanser in your machine. Soap can clogged up the lines in your machine. When you have soap dispensed or or in the water in your machine you are squirting it onto the carpet and sucking it back up at the same time...the soap and water isn't on the carpet long enough to clean well unless you keep going over the same area many times. To clean better it's really important to vacuum thoroughly going slowly in multiple directions to get as much dry, gritty soil and hair and dust out as possible, it's easy to get these soils out when the carpet is dry if your vacuum is working properly. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum.
Get a spray bottle or sprayer and put hot tap water in it, add the cleaning solution to the hot water and spray enough on the carpets to get the face fibers damp...let the hot water solution sit on the carpets 5 or 10 minutes and then use your machine to clean and rinse the soap, water and loosened soils from the carpet fibers. Repeat if necessary. Your carpets will be cleaner because you allowed adequate dwell time for the soap and water to work on the sticky greasy soils attached to the carpet fibers and stay clean longer because the soap is rinsed out of the carpets. Your carpet cleaning machine will last longer too because the water lines, pumps, spray jets, heaters, etc can't get clogged with soap gunk if you don't put soap in it. The method I'm describing is how the best professional carpet cleaners clean carpets. Hiring a quality carpet cleaner cost more up front but the carpets may stay clean two or three times longer, saving a lot of money in the long run. If you clean your carpets using this dual process method you may do a better job with a small portable home or rented cleaner than hiring the average carpet cleaning professional who is trying to give you the lowest price.

Hoover troubleshooting

Hi! Try these quick and easy steps to get the water from your hose to spray.

Assemble the hose to the unit.

While holding the hose at an angle towards the ground, pump the trigger about 30 times. Turn the cleaner on then squeeze the trigger for 30 seconds.

If the water is still not dispensing there may be soap residue bulid-up clogging the nozzle/valve. Try soaking the trigger end in warm water for a couple hours, then repeating the steps above.

If the cleaner is still not dispensing from the hose but dispenses from the unit, a replacement hose may be needed. Follow the link below to order a replacement hose for your cleaner. Search Results

Machine will not dispense water even though reservoir is full. Soap is not dispensing either.

check the spray nozzles on top of the brushroll. these often clog. If those are clear could most likely be the pump as they fail frequently.

Water and cleaner dispenses from handheld attachment only

He could be right but most of the time when it doesn't dispense water and cleaner it means that the pump belt is worn and needs to be replaced. I would try that first (only $4.99) before I spent $100. Here is the pump bet you need, it comes with instructions:

Black water leaks from bottom of ProHeat 2x

Probably be a rubber seal leak or crack at the soap water dispenser pump.
If you can take it apart and it is the seal you should be able to reseal it with gasket seal from an auto parts store.

Bissell proheat, not sure of model number no water will dispense

Ran in to similar issue except mine would not spray soap or solution through the floor cleaner but would work through the upolstry cleaner.

I found that there were 2 problems as follows:

1) The heater was clogged with mineral deposits and old soap that I had not cleaned out on a previous use.

2) The Valve that attached to the trigger sticks. (I am currently looking for a new valve)

Since you have soap and no water I your problem probably exists in the bottom of the unit. There are 6 screws to take off the cover.

You will see a hose that come from the soap despenser. It leads to the pump which is located in the front left corner of the unit. You can also trace the water hosed in and out of this pump. Since the hoses are clear you should be able to see any clogg. There is a hose that leads up the handle to the valve and then a hose that comes back down the handle (through the wheel opening) The hose that comes back down from the handel leads to a splitter which devides the output to the two jets.

Once it is apart it is pretty simple.

Hope this helps!!

Cleaner Solution Not Dispensing On Bissell 9200 Pro Heat Cleaner

I haven't had this particular issue (yet... knock on wood!) with my Bissell, but remember that the shampoo will not dispense with no water in the tank (the most common cause of this issue because sometimes you think it has water but it doesn't) or water not flowing through the machine due to clogged sprayers-- another issue-- but since you're getting water on the floor that is not your issue-- or with the handle locked in position. If none of that fixes it, try removing the shampoo container, stand over a sink, and push your finger up inside the grommet where the shampoo container mates with the Bissell. Shampoo should dribble out. If it doesn't, unscrew the grommet (holding the container upside down of course so the shampoo doesn't gush out) and use your finger and running water to try and the grommet cleaned out.

If this isn't helping, it may be that your soap pump or soap dispensing trigger switch are defective.

Soap dispenses, water won't

Could be the pump, but this model clogs up easily. You could try taking the noozles off and blow thru them to see if they are clogged or not. Other then that you may have to take it in for repair, It can be problem to find where it is clogged, if the noozles are ok that is. Unless you want to take it apart and try to find the problem yourself.

They all have problems. Hoover over Bissell, or Eureka. But it is hard to know which is better.

HOOVER STEAM CLEANER PROBLEM

The soap dispenser is supposed to be attched to the water tank. That grey piece, if it is round with 2 small ears on it is the metering plate, it controls the flow of water. It sits on the table that the tank sits on, insert it into the hole and turn to lock it in place.

The soap dispenser, on the side, make sure the seal is on the bottom of it and not in the hole. You may have to replace the valve asm for the dispenser part # 2101795
