Question about Televison & Video

How do I clear and fix the error message "Wrong Disc" on my just purchased Mustek PL 510 portable DVD player? I believe I am proving Einstein correct on his definition of insanity! Could someone please help me with this problem? Thank you very much for whatever help you can offer before this DVD player imitates a rectangular, shiny, sliver frisbee.

Thanks for your suggestion. I was hopeful that you had the answer, but unfortunately the Lil Mustek PL-150 did not respond to the alcohol Q-Tip tickle method or the Menu "Ten Step."

So, I'm still sitting here in Humidston, Texas with a recalcitrant Mustek PL-150 and the continually repeating "Wrong Disc" which is becoming as annoying as "Nevermore."

Thank you for your help anyway.

Well, okay, I have tried all the suggestions that all you kind people suggested, save boiling the darn Mustek PL510 in boiling oil. Nothing has worked and naturally I cannot find my receipt for purchasing this frustrating technical marble (and it doesn't even roll!). I have been informed that I cannot return the item without the receipt (I guess Mustek doesn't want the problem either). Mustek's attitude seems to be that I purchased the unit, therefore, it is my problem. C'est la guerre! To add a further insult, everytime I open the local paper to place it in the bottom of the bird cage, I see a lot of adverts for this vary same portable DVD player in many of the "Big Box Store" advertisements.

Does anyone out there in cyber "FixYa-land" have any other solutions to this my original problem? I have already thought of the solutions involving explosives and the careful application of firearms, but I'm afraid the noise would disturb my neighbors and create a canine commotion.

So I thank you all for any more suggestions that you might be able to send my way.

    Cheers from the old fossil,
    Smilodon

Seems to be a brand new unit, do you still need assistance with this one?

If its brand new Im sure you could get it replaced by another one from the shop if isnt working properly.

The useable forms in your device are

DVD, VCD, CD, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, SD card, MMC card

Heres a few things to check

Make sure the disc format is supported by the player, its DVD? should work

Check if the disc is defective by tryung another disc.

Check the region code (local and disc)

its possible that the disc you are trying to use is ment for another region.

I love the Einstein comment, I've had plenty of those times

The first think I would try is to clean the laser lens with a soft cloth or a q-tip with a little Isopropyl alcohol

or you can try the following

Without a model number it's hard to tell but maybe it's set tot he wrong region. Try this to unlock it to be region-free:

1) make sure you don´t have any DVD inserted and have Door Closed
2) IN remote control :
3) press SETUP
4) IN the Front Panel :
5) press NEXT
6) press STOP
7) press PAUSE/STEP
8) press PREV
9) press NEXT

You should now see a new MENU. Go to Select Region and make your choice:
- region 1
- region 2
- region 3
- region 4
- region 5
- region 6
- By Pass

Select ByPass and you're sweet. Not sure if it'll work with yours but it's worth a go.

Let me know what happens, good luck and have a good day

you could try leaving it unplugged for 5 minutes and see if it resets or anything

If you get this working, please let me know what you did, thanks

what did it do when you tried the region steps?

Did you also try each individual region?

If you really want to return it, may I give you the option of buying another one and returning this one with the new receipt (Use the new box). Of course, I would buy it from the same store and you shouldn't have to worry any more about this.

How do you feel about this. Some people may not be comfortable with doing this but I see nothing wrong in it as long as you tried going the right way around the first time and the same company still is conducting all of the business with you.

I purchased a cd player from an auction, and it was new.
The auction got it from finger hut surplus.
It did the same thing for me.
I opened it up and found a circular magnet inside holing the laser in place during shipment.
I was able to put a cd in it but it could not read the disc.
When I removed the magnet it worked fine.
I don't know if you have the same problem, but this is one suggestion.

Hi,

You can do a hard reset buy unpluging all the cords from the back of the player for 30min and then plug it back.

Goodluck..

    With no disk inside
    Press "SET-UP".
    Press “Next” & then “Prev”.
using “Next” & then “Prev”. see if you find any reset procedure

If cleaning the head with acohol did not solve the problem, then you have a defective lens. You need to call a service centre and eventually have the lens pickup replaced. Once the device is opend it must also be checked hat the motor is spinning and the belt in place. If is not lens or motor check control board elements for continuity.

Here is how inside looks like

Particularly, if you get wrond disk, It should be the lenst, try repeating the cleaning it, if it does not work it is likely to be an opaque/scratched lens in need of replacement.

If you could not fix it by cleaning the lens , you should first ensure the motor is running (you can hear it), if the motor is fine, but the lens does not read cd track then you need to replace whole lens pickup, buying replacement from Mustek.
