Question about Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 Notebook

I have tried to connect my SL500 to a digital hard drive recorder using the recorder's DVI input and the laptop's IEEE 1394 port on the left side near the front. The purpose is to record a slide show from My Pictures, or other picture folders, with music from Windows Media Player, onto an external hard drive recorder (made by LiteOn) from which I can then make a copy onto a DVD-R. However, there is no signal coming out of the IEEE 1394 port of the laptop. When I first connected everything together there was a message saying that the 1394 connection was recognized and ready for use. But still no signal. With no other external monitor connected I tried Fn + F7 to display on an external monitor but that was not allowed. I have used the same IEEE 1394 cable in the past to copy from my digital camcorder's DVI output to the DVI input of the digital hard drive recorder to make a DVD. So I know that that is not the problem.

First, ensure that the button that enables/disables the touchpad is not deactivated if your unit has one.

If the keyboard still works, and you can navigate past your log-in password and enter your windows environment, here is a quick way to check and ensure your laptop still has the correct software driver for your touchpad mouse.

1: Press and hold your windows key, and press the R key.
2: This will open a run command prompt. Type "devmgmt.msc"
3: This will bring up your device manager. It contains all of the software drivers of your unit. If your mouse has a missing driver, it should boldly stand out from the list as an expended menu, within either your mouse drivers, or unknown drivers. You should see a yellow asterisk or exclamation mark next to the damaged or missing driver.
4: If the driver is missing, you can often re-download it from the manufacturers website and have the computer automatically re-install it once you have the driver saved onto your computer.

This solution is only for a single scenario though. Why your driver would have gone missing should it in fact be missing or damaged would still be questionable. It is possible that another program, such as a malicious spyware or virus, could have modified or deleted it. If that were the case, simply re-installing it would not erase the software that is causing damage from your machine.

This is only a software related fix. If it is hardware related, such as the touchpad hardware itself is defective or damaged, then it would need to be replaced by a certified technician, most likely at a service center. I would recommend taking it to your nearest Best Buy and having a Geeksquad agent inspect it, test a usb or ps2 mouse with it, and give you a better idea of which of the two possibilities (hardware or software) the fault is really being caused by.

How to connect firewires of the HD?

How to connect firewires?

I have Sony DCR-TRV285E Digital-8 Digital Camcorder Driver for win.xp but i have the program for win.7


The USB streaming driver for the Camcorder is not available for Windows 7 OS from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible to transfer videos using USB interface. You may use i.LINK or A/V interface to transfer videos from the Camcorder to the Computer which is running on Windows 7 Operating System.


Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computer using an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394).


IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card must be installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, various video capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on your computer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for further information.

NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgate Plus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click To DVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive or directly to a DVD.

  1. Connect an i.LINK cable (also known as IEEE 1394) to the i.LINK port on the digital camcorder.

How can I get Windows 7 Movie Maker to recognise input from my Sony DCR TRV18E Handycam?


On page 230 of the user manual, it describes how to transfer movies from the camera to a computer using an i.Link (IEEE 1394) cable. You will need the 4 pin i.Link cable and an IEEE 1394 connector on your computer in order to do this. You cannot use the USB cable to transfer the video from this camcorder -- you can only transfer still images using the USB cable.
You will have to buy this i.Link cable and (if you don't have a IEEE 1394 port on your computer) a IEEE 1394 adapter card for you desktop computer. If your laptop computer doesn't have a IEEE 1394 adapter, then you're pretty much out of luck.
Once you have the i.Link and 1394 issues resolved, then Movie Maker should then recognize the camera.

WE HAVE NOT CONNECT TO PC MYSamsung VP-D371i MiniDV, Digital Camcorder


From the user manual, I've discovered that you have to use a IEEE 1394 cable (see the jacks display on page 11) to be able to download the movies from your camera. The camera does not come with a IEEE 1394 cable -- it only comes with a USB cable, so you will have to buy the cable.
Unfortunately, most PCs do not come with a IEEE 1394 connector and you have to buy an adapter card for a desktop computer. If you laptop does not have a IEEE 1394 port, then you are out of luck.
Once you have the cable and the port on the computer squared-away, check page 87 of the user manual for directions on how to retrieve the the video from the camera to the computer.
